I would say the primary factor is your wheel size or inteneded longer term wheel size. With 17" wheels there is only really one route that's going to make a difference, the Porsche 993tt setup or with 18" or bigger you have all sorts of choices, budget starts lower too as the more readily available used B5 RS4 brakes fit, as do other more recent Audi mulit pot calipers depending on your budget!

My digging revealed not enough guranteed success in changing discs or pads only and too many varied theories, so went the 993tt route, mostly decided by me wanting to retain stock wheels.

Try a search, there was a budget brake upgrade thread a while back that grew to quite a useful resource.

RS6 Calipers/Pads and RS4 B7 drilled disks.

Just had them fitted to my car and been playing with them this weekend.

FANTASTIC!! Honestly, what a setup ... the only downside is that I am gonna need to buy a 5 point not to keep me in my seat! That windscreen keeps coming closer!

As the guy said it all depends on how much you want to spend? My s4 is pushing 350 bhp so i fitted rs4 calipers. Got them off the forum. If there good enough for a standard 380 bhp rs4 then there good enough for me. U would need 2 have 18 inch wheels tho. Rs6 calipers and b7 rs4 discs will set u back 1200 quid.
Thats why i went the rs4 route

h8cak - be interested to hear how different you found the Rs4 set up to you old standard set up. Iv heard some report being dissatisfied with the B5 RS4 config as being only slightly better than the old brakes.

If youve got no budget then the RS6 calipers /RS4 discs are the best way forward - awesome:)

I do notice the difference. Especially at high speed. They are quite a bit better but thats not hard is it as the s4 brakes are <beep>

I agree, I went to RS4 setup from my stock S4, big improvement and never had brake fade again ...

Yes nice even braking. I dont see the point in spending loads on brakes if you dont have the power to back them up? Rs4 setup is good for 400bhp rs

Brakes?

Post by PaulS4 » Mon Nov 20, 2006 7:32 pm

Cheers for all the replies. At the moment I have 18" RS4 reps on so it does sound like the first option is to get hold of a set of RS4 B5 calipers, are they a direct fit?

Yes a direct fit. Very easy. I took nmine back to the metal and re painted them and added the RS4 Brake decals

I know what you mean. Tey cost loads. If i was running 500 bhp pluss i would but not really worth it for 350bhp. IMHO of course
