RS4 suspensions

Post by C-24 » Sat Nov 11, 2006 8:09 pm

I got an S4 with 320hp, brembo GT braking system. It's a wonderful car,
but maybe it could be a little bit more "stable"

is it a good idea to buy RS4 suspensions ? I found some RS4 susps, for ~130£, but in "used condition".
What do you think about that ?

I've got the same fitted to mine for similar money and think it is really good. To clarify, car is daily hack and not used for any trackdays or other motorsport events. It reduced body roll and stiffened it up nicely but best of all, I can still go round country lanes without shaking the hell out of the passengers. The lower stance looks "Right" with 18" wheels and looks so much better at the front. Previously I had a Pug 205 16V on Konis that was great, a Vr6 that was on H&r which was harsh but O.K and they finally leaked so got changed for Konis(again superb). Was going to give the H&R's another try on the S4 but group buy went smelly so bought S/H RS4 set-up and am quite happy with those now.
Also have same 320ish Hp as yourself and RS4 brakes. For me the car now is just about perfect for it's intended use. :D

Thank you for replying,

Are the RS4 suspensions lower than the S4's ? Becauce I have 17" (avus) wheels with 225/45/17 tires.
You said the 18" wheels fit "right", so with 17" wheels, rims would be too small ?

I have rs4 suspension with avus rims. Only lowers car about 15-20mm. Looks ok.

Have you an avant or saloon?

I have an S4 avant model 2000.

I see you also have an avant model and avus rims, but 17" size ?

Thanks

17" wheels would look fine. As Mikey said it is somethinkg like a 20mm drop. I found the front appeared to drop more than the rear that made each end look even. Mine stock was nose up with a much larger gap between the front wheels and arches. Also have RS4 anti roll bars but did not fit them as they measured the same thickness and appear to be identical so no point. Mines an Avant.

I fitted RS4 springs and shocks and H&R HRBs to my Avant. The ride height barely changed when I fitted it but the handling improved imeasurably and the car is about as comfortable as before.

Yes they are the same size but are stiffer as they are made from a different grade of steel. They have different partnumbers ect. Worth fitting

RS4 antiroll bars are the same part number as S4 anti roll bars. THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THEM!

gmbh did a thicker rear bar for the RS4 but it was an option, not standard

I've just purchased RS4 Quattro GMBH shocks and springs ( no rear ARB ) but not got it fitted yet. The thing that bugs me most about a standard S4 is the ride height especially the front sitting higher than the rear so i'm hoping this kit will level it out and also make it sit a bit lower and more aggressive aswell. Hopefully a set of H&R ARB's will be added sometime in the future to control the roll.
