The new RS6 Avant sounds like a great car to replace my Cayenne Turbo next year. Does anyone know when it is supposed to come out in the US?

 Although not linked, was funny to see a Cayenne off-roading this weekend in the Welsh mountains, even funnier when it slid down the side of a bridleway sideways and got completely stuck. Lesson learnt: good 4x4 but with road tyres, that aint going nowhere in that much mud!

The RS6 put lots of cars to shame in the messy stuff on the bridleways, great 4x4 traction; the Mercs & Beemers were sliding and wheel spinning everywhere, just made sure to avoid the deep and steep stuff. (Needless to say I did'nt take it off-road!)

Actually, the Cayenne is quite good off-road if you know what you are doing

Totally agree, but the tyres that he had on gave him no chance at all to lay down that traction.

Anyway, I'm in for something new after 70K miles in the Cayenne. We have a place upstate NY, so we battle a lot of snow on the next 15 weekends. The M5 is obviously not a good alternative.

I think the next RS6 will be so much more fun than the S6.

Long time ago now, but back in May 2003 my Cayenne came with Bridgestone Turanzas on 18" Turbo wheels. Day 2, belting through the Cotswolds and thought I'd have a play on a green lane. Tyres were indeed crap, but it had to be one of the first turbos to venture off road. So now I don't compromise: RS6plus and diesel Touareg with proper tyres. Could morph into 4.2 allroad.....

diesel Touareg with proper tyres...
The Towrags have been doing well in the Dakar over the last couple of years; I saw in the times a fortnight ago that they had a V10 diesel pulling a jumbo jet, the only mods over stock being a few ton of ballast and a shorter ratio gearbox. You cant fault that for torque credentials!

Anyway, back to the original topic... when do you think that Audi will announce new RS6?
