Was travelling back home after a trip to MRC and thought that it would be rude not to call in at the NEC for the bike show.
Was a really good show, the KTM & BMW stands were excellent and they were really helpfull answering my stupid novice questions.
There were some superb bikes on display

, but enough about the girls! The motorbikes were great too.
I also met Mick Extanse, an absolute legend of a bloke. He was doing a promo thing trying to raise money for his Dakar entry again... Have total respect for all the Dakar bike riders
I was surprised at how cheap some of the new bikes were; I was looking at the KTM 640 and the salesman told me that they retail at £6000, but at this time of year I could get one in stock for £3800 brand new! Because of seasonal demand and the annual change in models
The BMW F650GS Dakar was my favourite though, particularly as it looks like if you fell off the thing it would do more damage to the tarmac than the bike, although the risk of having a low-side crash is reduced as you can get ABS on it which might be wise for a first bike.
Checked out the tests also, direct access costs between £450 to £650 depending on how many days you need to pass (4 to 6 days). Also there are loads of off-road schools by Yamaha, Kawasaki, BMW etc etc. which sound like a right laugh.
Time to start saving now I think, oh and also to start negotiating with the Mrs as she is hugely anti-bike
