Woody - i applaud your bravery for the bonnet thing - that's great - but i'm afraid your wrong about the transmission movement forwards and backwards and the snub mount....

Read this article about driveline control and DTS type stabilizer/snub mounts - you'll see.

It's mainly the 2 hydro mounts under the engine that take care of the rotational movement (along with longitudinal and lateral). The snub is in no way strong enough to do that. I believe its main role is to assist the main mounts to stop the engine bumping forward under deceleration (including during gear changes).

The longitudinal movement is small (mm), so there is little chance of the fan hitting the rad.

well guys i,m gonna have to agree to disagree on the movement thing.. ive seen the vid before and the engine/gearbox/exhaust twisted rather than lunged forwards or backwards..
and to be honest where he has mounted that camera it will only really show twist rather than forward backward movement..anyway drive slow homies..

No probs Woody - I'm sure we can agree to disagree... :P

Bottom line is: a DTS is still a good thing to have....!

Back on short shifters, can anyone point me in the direction of a cheap one that works really well?

In fact, has anyone bought a premium short shifter that has problems with certain gears?

I really want to get this mod but would be a shame to make it difficult to get into reverse etc. I'm tempted by the shineydave DIY approach but don't have the confidence to take a dremel to my gearlever...

might i make a suggestion. buy a shortshifter kit then before you fit it attack your existing one with the DIY method, if it works ok then send the kit back for a refund, if it doesn't work you haven't lost anything

After posting this question i have bitten the bullet and fitted a Ebay special!!! Bit of a basta*d to fit as the whold center console had to be removed as mine is a pre facelift :x The result is loads better than the standard d*ck in a sock feel. Granted reverse is a bit hard to engage but this will get better with time as i had the same problem with my A4 T sport short shift. So my recomendation is get a Ebay special :bigblink:

I'm ashamed to say my ebay special is still sat on my office desk. I will fit it one day but don't have time at the moment to be messing about with it if I have problems...
