Kinda makes one wonder: - all the capital outlay that has gone into that car (judging from the spec listed in the ebay ad) must amount to many thousands of pounds, yet the return on investment is negligible or even zero.....

Don't think I'll go much further with mine once the suspension/ARBs and pre-cat gutting is done (unless I blow the turbos of course!)........might have to look for better front brake set-up though as the stock ones are very much on the limit of their capability envelope even now! (if i get more power with the gutted pre-cats then i may be forced to do the brakes!)

Have been looking at Robs car for a while now. It's quite a beast. What would it be like from a reliability point of view given that it's been modded quite heavily. I can't work out whether this car would be more reliable due to things such as the upgraded manifolds / turbos etc, or less reliable because of tthe high output it's running.

You asked if it looked familiar, so I said it didn't!

LOL.

You are totally correct about the outlay and return. The same is true for any modified car to be honest.

I have just sold my '99 C-Class. I had to remove and separately sell all the additions I made to the car to get the right money for the car : Sat nav, AMG wheels, AMG exhaust, stereo, oem interior options I retro fitted. The car was very rarely fitted with Xenons. I had the offer to swap these out with halogen units, I would have made more money but didn't want to take the car further back than it's original factory spec. It turned out well, I made good returns on selling of the parts, but I really wished I hadn't had to.

On 3 occassions now I have changed car to get more performance rather than modifying, twice buying exactly the same model of car on nearly the same year but going for the better engine choice.

Unless my hand is forced, I won't be spending more on tuning or modifying my car. If money starts to burn a hole in my pocket and it has to be something faster, I will change car. Can't imagine it for a while though.

Yep - get it now - I was being a bit slow on the uptake there

I think you're right in your philosophy about changing cars rather than blowing many thousands on modding an existing one - after I've done the springs/ARBs/pre-cats and timing belts/water pump (this last one is a necessity rather than a mod really) then i'm giving it a rest.

Had the custom MRC re-map, HX DVs, Milltek 3" cat-back, AWE DTS and boost gauge, F5DP0Rs, K&N filter, new N75 and N249, B&M shortshifter, Samco TBB and f-hose, 2 new MAFs, aesthetic stuff like centre arm rest, RS4 gear knob and bonnet grille, chrome dial surrounds etc....it all adds up to a fair outlay. The work i'm getting done on monday adds up to a fair penny too...

What we need to do is get to the top of the tree - ie an RS, then we can excuse our modding because very little else is faster off the shelf!

The car is ultra reliable (and still under MRC's warranty) as the turbo's etc are running way below capacity and certainly the K03's running a remap must be running 100% capacity.

Someone is going to get a complete bargain.
Is the car fantastic? Yes
Would I tune again? No
I would buy one already done or leave it std...

I love the performance, she honestly goes like something possesed but I should have really thought more about what I wanted from the car. A new house purchase, change of job and child no2 appearing has not helped me either....

It'll break my heart to let her go as most on the forum know very well...
