Engine air leak

Post by S3MXLA » Wed Sep 13, 2006 5:45 pm

Hi all,

Can anyone shed some light on the strange behaviour of my engine.
(Its a 2000, 210bhp) The car mostly seems very flat (no turbo kick) and occasionally will splitter badly at 4-5000rpm under load. Or it may kick in with a very impreesive surge of power at say 5000rpm.

You never quite know what to expect. VAG diag has detected 2nd air leak, mechanic recommends replacing to pipes at front of engine?!

Will this have any effect? Has any one suffered this?

Thanks

Mark

sound familiar. i had a 99 S3 for 5 years and after 20,000 miles, noticed a very obvious 'flat spot' of power delivery around 4000rpm. likely to be the same thing. as i recall, it was diagnosed as a fuel injection/pump issue. was fixed under warranty so no idea of cost, but sorted the problem, never to return...

hope this helps

Air leaks can be common. Replacing pipes is an obvious easy starting point.
