Dippy,

Your observations on reduced ride height scare me a little (I am having H&R coilovers fitted in a couple of weeks).

I wonder what height your car is running compared to my standard one, so I have measured the height from the ground to the centre of the wheel arch lower edges, which are: rear 67cm, front 68 cm.

Could you do likewise please ? so we can see how much your car is lowered by.

Cheers David

David,

It was a little difficult as my drive is on a slope (both ways) and my garage floor is a bit uneven (in fact I'm now keen to do the measurement again on level ground to check that the sides are consistent). However it appears to be about 63.5 cm all round.

Thanks Dippy,

If our test is reliable, you are lower by 35 rear and 45 front.

Would you suggest I go with AmD's 30 mm all round or more ?

David,

sorry for the delay in responding. I think you have to make your own mind up. The question to ask AmD is how much the handling is affected by lowering. If not much then indeed I would suggest not going quite as low as mine.

However you also need to consider how often you are affected by speedbumps and if they will affect you as much (I have the full Miltek and it appears to hang lower than OEM anyway).

I suppose I have really but I will ask them what their experience is. 30mm looks favorite. Cheers, I plan on a full exhaust later this year.

Re: S4 H&R Coilover Suspension..my story

Hi folks..just joined
I got my 2000 S4 6 months ago. I installed H&R coilovers 6 days after buying it after being dissapointed by the ride & handling vs M3. The installer lowered the rear more than the front so it looked like the car had a low arse! Anyway after severe hard ride and bad understeer I took to Audi to have leveled out. Now has about 1 finger width btw tyre and arch lip. Rides almost like stock, no body roll on hard cornering, almost no understeer and in fact I think is better handling than an M3 ( which I took around a track). I also bought the spanners to adjust the ride height myself but seeems to difficult a job myself becoz lifting rear lowers the front by some mathematical amount.
My 2nd mod was a short shifter (Stratmosphere). Now I am really happy with the setup. Still deciding on whether to chip.
ps I find driving over humps ok if u go diagonally
