I think Audi, as do other manufacturers, say it's in for life.
I can't help thinking the life will be shorter if not changed

Same stuff Audi use, not cheap, but any friendly dealer will be able to confirm the detailsMarkB wrote:But what did they put in??DavidT wrote:80k miles for both I reckon, MRC did mine.

Ah so standard is prefered by them. Some forums are full of people using just about every different brand on the market swearing it's the best thing since 'Multigrade'

The oil in question for the gearbox is 75/90w and holds approx 3l - 3.5l as i unfortunatly found out recently due to brain fade and accidently drained the gearbox insted of sump, (too many years of fords and vauxhalls).
I'm not sure of the spec of the rear diff oil but it's between 1l - 1.5l and this is due to having the rear diff oil seals changed

So the upshot is use OEM stuff? I can't believe that no-one has tried something like Motol Gear 300 or something else that has the potential to reduce the notchiness in our boxes?.
Looks like you need a minimum of 5 litres to do both the gearbox and rear diff! What about the center diff?????

Centre diff is part of the gearbox isn't it?
