Hehe....not really interested in making lots of power... at least not until I can get the most out of the power it's already got....which will be a while off !Mik wrote:

600bhp?
That article had an obvious typo - MTM made 602bhp at 6,800 rpm. 2 other companies have also done 600bhp+ with K16/24 turbos. Autospeed are claiming 600 US hp for their GT25 Garrett kit. Cost and lag are real issues here!

However I know how much the 510PS kit is, so to go to 600PS via the MTM route would bankrupt me!
Hey Tom - hope you are doing OK too. Let me know what you are up to. You not fancy the trip to Spa in Oct?
My car is just running in at present but I have some issues (!) that I will not go into on the forum. I have no doubt it will make the power - I have a better spec than other people who have made this level of power. The problem is how and when it makes it (and how much it costs!)

What is your car making these days then? Must be pretty close to the 600hp mark?

Sadly although I promised it to myself this year, the old girl is not up for the task and funds do not allow. I still have not sold the development in Goodrich and this has a lot of my money tied up in it. Whilst thats not a bad thing in terms of an asset it means for the moment I am grounded.

Quick plug
Plus coming back from my brother-in-laws the other weekend I just left her in 6th and rolled down the hill on overun. Got to the bottom of Birdlip hill looked in the mirror and could not see the road, just plumes and plumes of smoke. Got the family out and abandoned car whilst it calmed down. Dougs initial telephone diagnosis is valve stem oil seals which sounds fair enough. Although currently no funds to get it sorted. Keeps on doing it in the same scenarios on overun down hill. Also seems to have developed another oil leak, my initial diag is cam cover gasket again. Howeer, as soon as the cottage goes I will book it into MRC for the boys to sort her. - But for the moment......
No cigar.

RE: power
That seems a strange diagnosis, valve stem seals do not give those symptoms you get an initial puff of smoke on fire up from oil that has seeped through overnight etc i would be looking more into turbo seals from what you have said, negative pressure over the turbo can pull the oil through worn or u/s seals and overun down hill is were i would imagine you have the worst case of this, just my 2p
Plumes and plumes sounds more like a broken ring. Stem seals tend to give you a puff of smoke, can even be a big puff but never seem plumes of somke from stem seals.

When the throttle is shut and mainly on over run, it creates vaccum, which will drag the oil through the valve stem seals to be burnt, hence why diesel's won't have this issue.Just a guess but does sound plausible..
I think the turbo seals are on the way out on my car (not an Audi) because it smokes slightly now and again on tickover, but not on over run or WOT. Good reason to upgrade to a T28 or Gt28rs

It is all very odd as she stills pulls very well and does not smoke in any other situation other than downhill, off throttle.
The old girl has done 172k now so some wear will have occurred, especially since she is now running a healthy 470bhp or so.
Anyway as and when the house goes I will take her to the boys and they can dismantle and play with her to get her just right again.
One think is for sure I feel confident in MRC's ability to actually diagnos the problem when they have the car and sort it properly -
for the moment I will just keep on driving her until she goes pop. Sadly I have no choice until funds allow an alternative

the green car produces 519ps using the mtm kit - the engine kit cost about £15k and includes mtm hybrid k04 turbos, new exhaust manifolds, uprated fuel pump, cats and exhaust plus head work including very slightly lowered compression and custom mapping by Peter Link from mtm. in addition there is the uprated clutch, coilovers, big ARBs, mtm 380mm disks/rs6 calipers and rear big brake kit.Paulm wrote:did MTM not get a green RS4 to around 580 with bigger turbos and minimal extra work?
after that an FMIC was added but i dont think it adds much top end power - just stops the boost being backed off when used hard and enables you to keep the midrange torque high.
interestingly the 600hp kit and the 520hp kit produce the same torque - about 650nm/580 lbft - the 600hp one just produces it higher in the revs range meaning in reality the 520 is easier/better for everyday driving but has higher bragging rights.
the rs4/rs6 hybrid turbos produces slighly more power - about 540 and more torque about 720nm but there is a big spike in the torque curve for the rs4/rs6 where as the mtm 520 turbos produces a remarkably flat torque curve with no loss at the bottom end compared to oem turbos.
the big torque spike means you have to use an uprated paddle clutch to stop slip and this makes the car a real pig to drive - i know of 2 520hp mtm cars with oem clutches and these are far nicer road cars and the clutch is fine. i took off the mtm race clutch for the green car and went back to oem and am very happy i did so.
