RE: Tesco 99 (again)
Fifth Gear did an article on using 99 octane fuel...using rolling roads they demonstrated that 99 octane fuel gives better performance over 97 or 95 fuel..but the higher quality car the better the difference. A VW Polo (or similar) didn't show any improvement but turbo'd cars showed noticeable improvements.
They have just done a complete refit at Royston Tesco...number of 99 octane pumps? Nil....bast*rds!
At the Goodwood Festival Of Speed BP were showing off the 102 octane fuel....showing a huge bhp improvement on a live rolling road. Guess they forgot to mention that the ECU needs remapping to benefit from the higher octane.

Re: RE: Tesco 99 (again)
funny the way they wrote that review sounded like the car would fully optimise the settings by itselfderdle wrote:Guess they forgot to mention that the ECU needs remapping to benefit from the higher octane.

Anyone got any info on the RON/MON figures?
I also read somewhere that the supermarket fuels dont have the same additives that BP & Shell use to protect the engine...

Tesco 99 feels very good in 6+, quicker pick up and I think more power. (Ask Startrek with his modified 6, how mine is to follow).
However, how much of a remap is required, if at all, given that most modern cars have real time knock detectors to adjust the timing to suit the engine load and at least to some extent, the fuel octane rating?

Remapping is a must to optimise the fuel, my rally car was producing 424 bhp on super with millers additive, highly illegal I later found out from MSA
When played with on rolling road, found out it had been mapped to run on Av-gas.......... when added to the car the bhp went up by 25 bhp...... ECU was remapped to run on super only and produced 435 bhp.
not bad, when you dumped the octane booster you gained 11 bhp... I hope some numebrs are wrong there...simple1 wrote:Remapping is a must to optimise the fuel, my rally car was producing 424 bhp on super with millers additive, highly illegal I later found out from MSAWhen played with on rolling road, found out it had been mapped to run on Av-gas.......... when added to the car the bhp went up by 25 bhp......
