Door mirrors - folding?

Post by j964 » Sun Aug 27, 2006 10:28 pm

Hard to tell from the wording in the brochure, but do the door mirrors fold back out of the way? I know there's no electrical option, but it's not clear if they can be folded manually.

No. That's one of the reasons why I havn't ordered one.

Its interesting if you go to Porsche they will do practically anything as a special order but go to Audi and if its not in the brochure its not on. I wanted an Avant with folding electric mirrors (happy to take the S4 ones) with memory for this and the the electric recaros. No, not possible even as a special order even though my S4 with the same seats has all that. I just refuse to drive a car in that price point or above without those two features.
Maserati GranTurismo GTS Auto, S3 Sportback, TT2 3.2 Roadster, Disco3 for the heavy stuff.

Sorry to be pedantic, but we are talking from the same sheet here aren't we - the mirros are incapable of being folded out of the way, even by hand?

Even by hand!!! If they get hit, they are on a stud and they just pop off - you have to just pop them back on!!!

That explains somewhat the reason why I have heard of a few sets of mirrors being stolen from RS4's
Present:...
Lotus Evora GT410 Sport, Caterham 420R, CCM Spitfire, VW T2 Bay Window 1976

Past:
DB11 AMR, 992, 991.2, Yamaha MT01, 640d Gran Coupe, 635d Coupe, RS6 C5, Audi TT 225 Coupe, Astra with wind up windows, Citroen ZX, Rover 213, yes behold, a Rover 213... Renault 5

Just because it pops off in the event of an impact, it is not so simple to steal it - it is still attached to the car by a wiring loom.

I am a bit surprised by the feedback.
I exist a mirror folding option, at least in Germany, Switzerland etc...
For sure it is not available on the RS mirrors but you can choose to have usual A4 mirrors that can fold manually or even select an electrically folding version.
Does it mean that your distributor did not select this option ?

If he can guarantee seat memory then he is different to the three dealers and the two Audi Customer Services managers that I have asked.

As I said the option exists. May be the point would be to ask to your distributor why it is not available in your country...

The door mirrors are available electric folding in the UK according to thisoption/price list(see page 14), but I think you will find that the folding mirrors are a totally different design to the default option.

They are only available on the RS4 Cabriolet. I've got them fitted to mine.
