rs4 d/pipes to s4 miltek fit...?

Post by rolskii » Tue Mar 21, 2006 11:40 pm

Has anyone made the converstion of rs4 downpipes to an s4 miltek system...?

I have the above scenario..... I have quickly measured up the pipes, but had other things doing... so can anyone give me advice on tube size convertion needed, length of pipe needed to bridge the difference in pipe lengths...?
Or do miltek make this part im after ..?

cheers
David :D

David, get an RS4 Milltek cat-back, otherwise it's too much hassle IMHO/IME.

David

Is this the route you took with the RS4 downpipes? How much did it cost etc??

Thanks

After conversations with the guys at miltek, it wasnt happening, so I sourced a bit of old scrap pipe, new clamps,
I did it myself, used my mates ramp and welder, scrap pipe was perfect dia. fit, same as rs4 d/pipes, so i measured up after fitting gutted d/pipes on, cut both sides of the y-pipe that had the nasty little reducers miltek weld on,
welded 2 new lengths into the miltek y-section, enabling me to use my rs4 ex. clamps onto the rs4 d/pipes to modded miltek , or the original rs4 exhaust if i ever need to.......

Sounds good. Were they both straight lengths? Did the lengths of pipe go over the downpipe and inside the Miltek?

I take it the RS4 downpipes are larger bore than the S4 versions and am I right that the RS4 main cat is 200 cell rather than 400 cell on the S4

Also... do you have to fill some of the sensors holes on the RS4 downpipe (RS4 having more sensors than the S4)

yep, straight pipes inserted and welded, using rs4 clamps, so no over lap, just same removal as rs4 ex. system .... quick ..
i went down the local fasteners and got a long bolt, same thread etc.. as lambda sensors, screwewd it in, chopped & welded on both rear sensor locators.
correct on cell size too

Interesting, do the RS4 clamps need a flange to work?

No ... the pipe is straight, inserted and welded to the miltek y section,
was same internal dia. as the cut y-pipe(give or take a 1/16..... :bigblink: ), and the same size as the rs4 d/pipes

Welding lambda sensors in the bungs sounds silly to me, what if the car needs mapped with a wideband lambda sensor at some point? It'll need new bungs welded in....

Oh well...

He didn't weld the sensors in, just some bolts to block the holes... RS4 has more sensors than the S4...

Even bolts Mark, honestly, you can buy plugs for lambda bungs for just a few quid and at least you have the bungs in case the car ever needs a wideband to be installed, even temporarily, as for getting mapped for instance.

Just a thought.

Well i have seen sensor plugs before, i tried to source them from a few places and came up blank, space on my mates ramp doesnt come up that often - they were going on .... !
If need be, the welded thread could be removed ... but i wouldnt fancy it......
