Just rang my insurance company to tell them I have fitted new wheels and they have slapped an extra £76 on the premium. Is this a fair figure?? it constitutes an 11% increase??

Re: New wheels costing me £76??
unfortunately they have you over the barrel if you are already with them and many companies take advantage of this.
Re: New wheels costing me £76??
Well I don't think it's fair, and I wouldn't pay it. My insurers (NFU Mutual) only charged me for my engine modifications. I did ask them about changing my wheels (but I haven't), and they said it wouldn't change my premium.
Unfortunately every insurer has +s and -s. I nearly went with Elephant, as they only wanted about £50 for protecting my NCD whereas NFU Mutual have a flat 15% charge!
However when I realised that Elephant will not pay for mods in event of theft/damage etc, I decided that the extra £90 I had to pay NFU Mutual was worth it!

Re: New wheels costing me £76??
Thanks for the comments Guys,
I argued with them but no joy!!... and they will not increase the value of the car in the event of theft. They simply are charging me for "increased theft risk??".
So here is a big thumbs down to Bell Direct... but the premium is still cheap I guess at £650 std + £76 for wheels. FCP no acc or conv.
God knows what I would be charged if I get an exhaust??

Re: New wheels costing me £76??
NFU Mutual charged me only £150 for all my mods. Also they were the cheapest of all the quotes I got. The only bad thing about them is this 15% flat fee for protected NCD. Since my premium is £1300 before protection, this works out quite expensive.
I think my premium is high because I have business cover and I do not have a clean sheet (and SP30 and I wrote off my Impreza a few years back ).
I suggest you try them at you next renewal.

Re: New wheels costing me £76??
but you are right, it is all about the risk, value seems almost irrelevant , in the end you'll only get what they wish to pay you, unless you have agreed value ( unusual for modern cars)
