New windscreen - dealer or Autoglass?
Some little tosser in an A3 pulled out in front of me today and the picture frame I was carrying (granted it was a bit unsecured) took a piece out of my head on its way into my windscreen when I did an emergency stop.
Do I autoglass it or dealer? Any issues with RS4 windscreens I can prime the glass monkey's with?

Good question, my windscreen has a crack in it, and while washing it at the weekend I noticed there was a crack across it in the top corner
My insurance co want to use autoglass
What shall we do?

Re: New windscreen - dealer or Autoglass?
I had a crack in the windscreen of my RS6 within days of owning it.. bloody stone chip at 120mph!!
Apparantly, and I have this on good authority, is that Audi Uk use Autoglass to supply replacement glass.. it's Audi's own glass (make sure you ask for it if you're doing it on insurance) but their staff are much better fitters than audi staff so go for it.
Autoglass did a superb job on my RS6 and I wouldn't hesiate to use them again. Make sure that you give them a ring first with your make and model of car.. make sure they order the right tint.. and bob's your uncle.

Have to be fitted with genuine prep, screen, and glue. If you don't you loose your warranty on the area surrounding the screen.
I had a new screen, and had to get it fitted by Audi. Most dealers call a screen fitter in to do it, many screen fitters do not have the necessary tools to use the Audi glue. My screen was fitted by an external company, but booked out as using genuine parts. Some dealers do replace windscreens in-house, I know Peter Gilder Audi (Sheffield) have invested in an 'Audi glue machine'.
Tricky one really. You have three choices:
1. Find an Audi dealer who fits windscreens onsite.
2. Find an Audi dealer who will book the job as genuine parts.
3. Get it done and forget it ever happened...
Be sure to check the job once it is done. Take a picture before, and compare. When they did mine, it looks like they reduced the length of some of the trim to get it in easier .

whoever you choose, make sure they don't damage your paintwork leaning on the car etc.
Autoglass left a nice long scratch on the bonnet of my G/F's car after dragging a screen across it last week the malackers.

Re: New windscreen - dealer or Autoglass?
John,
Phil is right... I got Aston Green to do mine on my Black RS4 and they made a superb job. It was done with a genuine audi sceen that they ordered - yes a sub contract guy came and did it. From memory it cost abot £400 - And actually my insurance paid - after I told them that the warrentee was invalid without a genuine replacement... I had to pay for the job and recover the money from them.
Hope that this helps...
P.S. Obviously the new chip caught you out!!!!

Looks like AG it is. Howver this means it'll be at GTI with a feck off crack in the windscreen - so no giggling please.
Re: New windscreen - dealer or Autoglass?
Thats strange, they told me to go through my insurance co when i needed to have mine replaced..... it was done be autowindscreens and its was a very good job indeed..... they used pilkington glass too I know Peter Gilder Audi (Sheffield) have invested in an 'Audi glue machine'.
I`ve heard bad things about the autoglass place in sheffield.... and i wont be going there eventhough my insurance company has them as their fitters!
Have a guess how my screen got cracked?
I`m just a hardcore petrol head Re: New windscreen - dealer or Autoglass?
150 mph winscreen chips are easy to fix! It's those 150 mph stone chips that have taken chunks of paint off which are more expensive!
I too have a crack propogating through my winscreen and so am interested in peoples' recommendations here. On insurance it is only £50 excess but I am not sure who my insurance company prefers: probably Autoglass (Elephant).

Re: New windscreen - dealer or Autoglass?
Good!!
Maybe Audi supply autoglass if requested.. I know I got the real deal because it has the audi rings on the glass...
but you do need to insist with your insurance company that only origional audi glass will do.. because they need to replace the screen surrounds (you know those metal strips) at the same time!
