Well poor or not it seems obvious that with better air and fuel flow that there would be the potential for increased power. As I said the US applications of this avenue of tuning seem to prove this.

So basically, taking your argument a stage further then the fact that AmD had not recommended these mods could mean that:
1. AmD can't guarantee the results
2. That AmD simply don't know
3. That versus the expectation of 400+ HP (AmD's website claim) the perceived benefit of these mods versus the £ investment may not have been so apparent. Let's assume that the potential output including fuel and air mods is 405 HP versus output without the additional mods of 395 HP. Let's say I opted for the air and fuel mods, paid AmD separately my hard-earned and the car is delivered with 405HP. I would certainly be disappointed because my expectation was c405 HP (400+ HP) in the first place. This does not mean that there isn't a tangible benefit of the air and fuel modifications but if you were AmD would you be recommending a further £600 investment for a result which was possibly bound to disappoint.
Wise, not poor, my friend.

Until tuners like AmD can come up with a rate card menu system with HP output versus price like their continental competitors do then it is always going to be the chocolate box scenario of not really knowing what your going to get.

Well no 1 is always going to be true!

I wonder how many K04 upgrades AmD has actually done. Not that many I bet. We know that Rob K's was the first, and that effectively he paid for the R&D (or some of it). I know that Scott used to have an S4, but if it had K04s or not I don't know. So no 2 may have some truth to it as well, and no 3 is very likely.

I guess that you will now give AmD the chance to measure the difference between K04s alone and K04s plus some gubbins...

H&R coilovers, AWE DTS, Porsche front brakes, Short-shifter, 18" RS4 replicas
Defi-HUD boost gauge / turbo-timer (with afterrun pump modification), Phatbox

Quite honestly that depends on the cost. If I can supply the parts ex VAG parts and I get a good price for fitting and a remap then I'll probably give it a go. But if its going to cost me a couple of grand for 10 BHP I'b be a fool to go this route in favour of something like the full H&R setup or even GmbH suspension.

Then of course there is the longing for an RS4.

I'm a proud owner of an RS4 and a S4 (European version), so after I install the X chip from GIAC to my S4, I decide to tried it out against my stock RS4 380 H.P. and the results were fantastic. In first gear the cars were one besides the other, in second gear the same, but the RS4 started to pull a little so at the end of second (7,000 rpm) gear it was ahead by just one hood. In third gear the RS4 started really to pull away, like 5 cars ahead and in fifth gear another 4 to 5 cars for a total of 9 or 10 cars away all the way to 250 kph. We didn't have enough space for six gear.

Yes - that's what I'd expect. Since I don't tend to do the sort of speeds you were going at when the RS4 really started to gain the advantage, there's not much point in my having one!

The law of diminishing returns applies to many things including bhp,
speed costs money, how fast do you wish to go ?
Cosworth did a total redesign on the heads (?) so head work on the S4 would surely be beneficial.

I've got to admire you guys for the commitment ( and ££££££s ) you put into your cars.

Zeke,

If the S4 had Downpipes(like the RS4), do you think it would have stood a chance?

I remember the fist time I went up against Phil T's RS4 at Santa Pod with my then Abt remapped S4 this is exactly what happened. In the higher gears the RS4 just came from behind to being well ahead.

Hey Prawn, I hope you got your brakes sorted out then

Mega figures, Did you have any mods in addition to AmD's RS4 turbo conversion ?

Great news Prawn - that's a sh*t load of power and torque you've got there. Worth every penny isn't it?

Is this the same conversion that you had done Joshie?

Yes, insofar as I believe that Prawn has has the Miltek downpipes and K04's plus remap but I'm not sure if he has had further mods done such as the RS4 intercoolers - his car is developing more power and torque than mine so it's a job well done.

Sorry for the delayed replies guys,
I have been to busy out playing

Conversion is the std AMD one, I did have to have the clutch
and flywheel changed as they were fried/warped.
Intercoolers are std S4, I am looking at the FMIC as the next step later this year.

The car drives fantastically, very smooth and linear power
delivery, can be a bit tricky in the wet though as mine is a pre traction control model.
