Hows the vast clutch? Thinking of a new clutch for mine when RS6 turbos get fitted. Be interested in your opinions on the vast item, Kevlar or ceramic?

piggie told me to get the ceramic as the kevlar might give up with rs6 hybrids. It feels almost like stock a little more agressive grip .

havent launched yet but It should take high rpm launches wery well . I might go to a strip on august if all goes well. the nearest strip is 200km away so braking a halfaxle would be bad.

Smurfbus,

Nice feedback thanks, tried emailing the pigmeister about clutches but got a piglet. Might try ringing Mike later this week or maybe the weekend. Going to run mine on a Fidanza LWFW and wanted to know if anyone was already running this combo.

Rgds

Kevin

Oh, forgot to mention that piggie said ceramic might be too on/off with LWFW! I got rs4 FW and I only sanded it because it hadn't slipped in two years and the surface looked pretty good. only very minor color variations in small spots.

Here is my time sheet - bearing in mind I am a stage II+ - and was able to sit with a new shape M3 from 100 onwards!!

60 ft --- 2.153
330ft --- 6.276
1/8 --- 9.625@75.25
1000' --- 12.34
1/4 --- 14.772@96.18

Just silly! It was the first time I had launched the S4 so I was a little gentle with it. I have had the pre-cats gutted since and I am confident (When cool) it is running very quick. Anyone pickup anything from my time slip?

Cheers,
Leon

What was your trap speed? Was this at Pod?

Your 60ft is high for an AWD car. This is the timeslip for the fastest stock car:

60 foot (sec): 1.840
1/8 mile (sec): 8.701
1/4 mile (sec): 13.629
MPH: 99.95

Fastest stage 2:

60 foot (sec): 1.804
1/8 mile (sec): 8.330
1/4 mile (sec): 13.033
MPH: 104.44

These are American times btw. See kaygee's post above for what you should be aiming at.

yep, your launch is killing you as is first to second shift. Your loosing 3 or 4 tenths on your start and another 2 tenths to the 1/8 mile (slow shifts or over revving first). 1/8 - 1/4 is fine as is trap speed showing nothing wrong with the car, fortunately. Not bad for your first go. Sort out the launch and shifts and those times will drop. Should be able to knock a second of that time.

Took me an hour one evening working out best way to lauch the S4.

BTW no way a stock S4 pulled a 13.6, much less a US spec one. I've seen those figures and flat don't believe them. Even a superstar 1/4 pilot would only be a tenth or so better than the Audi test pilot (14.3). Someone telling porkie pies or some very dubious timing equipment.

My car was running 13.5 (1/4 mile) times in 2003 & 2004 at pod, with just remap and full exhaust.

lol @ porkie pies!

Yeah that run was at pod with a strong head wind. 96MPH I was told was okay, so it is all in 1st & 2nd... I was being gentle with it. Now I have the DTS, gutted pre-cats & short shifter I think a low 13 is on its way.

Yeah I am sure I can get my launch a lot better. It was my first week with the car and I had my F-Hose go on that day - along with my heat troubles all in all I think my 14.7 was quite respectable lol!

I have been driving the car for months now and it is running well. I have a little contraption that can work our your 1/4 by g-force. I will set it up this weekend and give it a whirl. Cant vouch for the road I will be running it on, but having used it at pod in my golf GTI back in the day it was 1 tenth out of pods time - so its pretty darn accurate!

I shall get my times posted up this weekend. Chant with me now... 13 13 13 13 :D

it is all in the launch, with about 380bhp and an RS4 clutch, you can launch at about 3k, did this for about 18 months. works very well.

With my little racetec box of tricks I did a few launches with the engine warmed up but "cool" - IE: no heatsoak & I got the following results:

0-60 6.1
1/4 - 13.7@103MPH

Averaged low 14's though and mid 6's 0-60 all around 100MPH terminal speeds. Was done of a varying surface - IE: Slightly downhill and slightly uphill at times. Tried both directions. Most launches at about 3-4k with clutch slip, change at 6k then change at about 5.7-6k into 3rd then change at about 5.5k into 4th. Nearly hitting 5th

If I could get my 0-60 closer to what "it should be" that is a very low 13 or even high 12... - I dont see how to improve the launch though - need more power at the top end! Runs out of puff too soon!

Sounds like your slipping the clutch far too much, definetly your launches killing you. Try slipping it less each time until you spin the wheels, then slip it slightly more to retain traction. 0-60 on a good launch should be around 5 secs. Checked your tyre pressures?

I'd shift earlier in both first and second, no point revving much beyond 5K in low gears, 5.5K from then on. With gutted pre cats low to mid 13s is your target. Get your launches sorted and you should be hitting low 13s. Try disengaging traction control if you have it.

looking back on old posts, this is where I am making the time up. with about 390bhp my car was running 0 - 60 in low 4's. did 7 run's all between 4.49 and 4.09.
this was on Silverstone timing gear last year....

Wow - impressive brett!!

I will reduce the revs on the launch and see if I can better it. I really am not slipping the clutch much at all... literally for the first split second to get it rolling then its all out full power to the ground. May just be over revving it then. High 12 be nice lol - dreeeeeeeeeem!
