Physical Cars available

Post by M80EUF » Fri Jul 28, 2006 3:16 pm

I have been ringing dealers today looking for physical cars, and guess what? I have found 3, one of which i am buying myself. All last minute cancelled orders, all physical cars from dealers not brokers ie you pay no premium.

So if anybody wants to buy a cabriolet or an avant I will happily pass on details of which dealer to call!

Seems very odd that "used" RS4's are selling at a premium when brand new cars are available for list...

Perhaps some people just don't put the effort into securing a car as you have done M80EUF.

Agreed - I spoke to 3 different "brokers" who wanted between £1.5k and £5k as a premium. As I knew that the cancelled orders existed I thought it was worth calling a few dealers, which was certainly worth it. There has obviously been a shipment in the last week or so.

Seems very strange when dealers are not allowed to keep canceled orders, they are suposed to be put into a central pot for all the dealers to draw from.. would keep the dealer info for Pm use only if I was you, they may end up loosing thier franchise otherwise...

simple1 - as an aside, the first call I made was to Audi UK to see if they could help me as I had heard about this "pot" system. They wouldn't/couldn't give me any info and claimed that all orders are dealt direct between the dealers and Audi Germany. I was surprised and a bit disappointed. But am very excited as hopefully I will have my new car by next week!

What  So Audi UK dont import the cars, nor distribute them.... agreed cars come into England and go straight to a dealer, but Audi UK own and control the entire operation..and pick up the bill if things go pear shaped... Glad you achived your goal, look forward to hearing about and seeing the new beasty.

M80EUF, did you get the cancelled order at a discount from list price to allow for the no-refundable deposit that the original purchaser lost? I know of at least 1 forum member (audimartin) who might have to back out of an order and has been told by Audi that the deposit is no-refundable. Doesn't seem right to me that the dealer/Audi are making an extra cut out of someone's cancelled order. Anyhow enjoy the car when it arrives.

I'm always somewhat confused by the whole non-refundable deposit. Surely the deposit is only non-refundable if audi lose money on you not taking the order. If they manage to sell it to someone else then where's the problem.

When I bought my S3 (used), I bought it from a friend who worked at an audi main dealer and I put down a deposit, but they told me that strictly if I back out they can't keep my deposit so it's all a little blurred for me?

Well, they can always say they've lost money, I had a very hairy moment recently where the dealer said exactly that, and I had to get a little shirty with them. Basically what I have learnt is this: Don't expect help from Audi CS, they are not interested and say that it's up to you and the dealer, they won't get involved. Also the safest thing to do is to get everything in writing from the begining, namely at which point your deposit becomes non-refundable, which as we all know should be when you spec the car, not before. Then it's fair on both sides. My dealer tried it on in a major way, but because he couldn't supply me with any documentation that I'd signed - a signature of sale, contract etc he had no choice but to give it back.

Deposit becomes non refundable when a physical order is made, ie you have ordered, spec'ed a car and it has your name and confirmation number attached to it, up until that point you have every right to ask for it back.. I got the sales staff at my dealership to add this clause to my invoice for R8 which states: The deposit can and will be refunded unless a physical order has been placed. The business of buying a place on a list is bollox... £1500 in anybody's money is plenty to have sitting in somebody else's bank acount earning them interest. I did not have to pay a penny for my RS4 until March 2nd when I placed my spec on order, until that point, my letter of intention was accepted as an order. The R8 is slightly different apparently, and they are trying to gauge how many serious buyers are out there, and how many are speculating....

tanoga, in answer to your question no. I was just happy not to pay any premium over list and to not have to wait till likely 2007 delivery.

Thanks to som esterling work by myself and the dealer I picked up the car on Saturday morning and am loving it. Spec is simply black with black buckets, tech pack and heated seats. I would have liked a phone (maybe a bluetooth aftermaket?) and blinds for my young children, plus I had ordered recaros on my original order (I am the wrong side og 100kg!). In all honesty the seats so far have been fine for the two trips of 60ish miles I have done.

I can't get enough of that engine note...
