the technique here, is to take a mate or two with you, then push the car down the line up road, bonnet up, then start it up just before you go to stage, then cain it from cold! ( yes all wrong but everyone does it )

Can we have a mod start a post and have people quote their mods & 1/4 times & where they did them?

Am ok thank you now, CBR is a write off. have new flywheel and RS4 clutch in the car now, So will look to uprate it at the end of the year now. Just can't launch it. just getting all the new parts together first.

1. Uprated clutch
2. Custom engine oil cooler
3. Custom gearbox oil cooler
4. Custom PAS cooler
5. Maybe Custom rear diff oil cooler too

Ps: People should look into water injection. helps with the heat very well. made so much difference to my car.

Well I was right anyway... a 12.6 with 370BHPish sounds about right to me... why isnt everyone running these times!!?? Some heat issues. Did you have the water injection then?

yes I do this kit.

ERL Aquamist System 2D Water Injection Kit

Ref: erl.806-009

SYSTEM 2D with FiA2 AMPLIFIER
For those who wants a 3-D water injection MAP but do not want to spend the time-consuming task of mapping, this system is perfect for you.
The heart of the system is a newly developed controller that reads the PWM signal from the engine's fuel injector (including Peak and Hold type) and convert it to drive the High Speed Valve to deliver water, it draws less than 10ma from the pulsed line. This will enable the water injection to follow a fixed water/fuel ratio.
A 3-30psi Adjustable Pressure Switch (normally closed) sets the cut-in point relative to the manifold pressure. It just cannot be simpler for the user.
The system provides a pre-pressurised water line up to 8 bars and the flow rate is metered by our High speed Valve (HSV). This inline valve is made of high grade Stainless steel. As usual, except for the water tank, the system is supplied with everything needed to be fitted with ease.

I'll say it again....

stock should be running mid to high 14s. (Audi claim 14.3 but this is with Audi test pilot probably worth couple of tenths)
stage 1s should be running high 13s low 14s.
stage 2s should be running mid to high 13s.
stage 3s should be running mid 12s to 13s.

If you're running outside these times, there is something wrong with your car or driving technique (ducks and runs for cover.......).

Look at your 60', trap speed and 1/8 times. This should give you a good idea where the problem lies with your times.

Launch is measured by 0-60'. >2.0 could do better. @ 1.9 OK @1.8 Good. @1.7 Excellent. <1.7 We are not worthy.

1/8th mile. 9 secs is 14s 1/4, 8.4 is 13s 1/4, 8.1 is 12.5s 1/4, 7.7 is around 12 sec 1/4.

Trap speeds. 99mph=14s, 105=13, 110=12.5s, 115=12s.

1/4 mile times are all about physics, we have 4 wheel drive which helps us launch but weighs us down and increases rotating mass. Our cars are powerfull but heavy.

Reducing weight will help 1/4 mile times as much if not more than increasing hp. One of the fastest US drag times is run on straight K04s, RS4 clutch and 2.5" exhaust with dumps. It is however stripped to the bone. 11s@128mph. By no means the most powerful S4. Running race gas.

0-60 1/8th 1/4 mph
1.6 7.1 11.06 128 mph

Avant is 50Kgs heavier than the Saloon, or nearly a tenth slower.

Hi Kaygee... I know I have a problem from a (long) standing start... I am talking about general times people are running in their S4's - EG: DavidT - but I think he probably was being gentle with his baby on the day I saw him + was fighting uphill at pod with a 20MPH headwind (apparently).

The only experience I have had with 1/4's & S4's was that day and no one ran great times, checking on forums it seemed no one has been getting respectable times based on their mods with the exception of people like BRETT - that is why I did this post - to see what other peoples feeling were.

Cheers,
Leon

I did 12.7ET 111mph last summer 25C with a setup that did 3.8sec FATS

heatsoak is bad with these engines so enough time to cool between runs is essential. My new setup is more powerfull but the rs4 trans is slow as hell from 1st to second so I dont think I can get good ET with it but trap should improve to around 115mph I hope.

Hey Brett,

I think these fellas are pretty highly regarded on AW:

Looks like it would cost about $1800 with the flywheel.

now its K04/rs6 clearanced and extrude honed, #60 injectors, rs4 MAF 2.5bar FPR (adjustable) Labree DPs+cats, rs4 ICs

cant dial the fueling any lower with rs4 maf size and its still about 10AF at high boost so I will hopefully get an baseline ecu-code from mihnea and tune it there on.

on low boost its somewhat acceptable at AF 11.5 or thereabouts. But who wants to run low boost when you have invested on high boost turbos? Anyway it run pretty nicely with 1.4bar peak to 1.25bar. Fats runs is about 3.1 -3.3 depending on weather and heatsoak. Rs4 3rd is about 7% shorter than s4, ie faster accel on same rpms.

Hi Smurfbus,

Thought you'd disappeared...did you blitz your S4 tranny? Wondering why you went with RS4 tranny?

What state were your K04s in? IIRC you were running some high boost levels....sub 3 secs FATS.

I had gear problems and when slave change did not help so I ordered a 25tkm rs4 trans just to be ready when I'd pull the engine and trans. It was rs4 PP that had lost one of the three fingers that made the gear engagement a nighmare. So while I had a spare rs4 trans why not put it in. it has better gear ratios for 3rd and 4th and the torsen is also 1:4 so it delivers more power to the end that has grip.

The K04s were both in good condition but while the engine was out I just had to put the new ones in. I do all the work alone so engine pull is a bit time consuming so I dont want to take it out again in next two years that my new rs4pp+vast ceramic should last easily. Too bad the rs4 trans is so slow. I need to check the oil level and possibly put 4 dl more. I put 3liters but some manual showed 3.4liters for rs4 trans and if I get lucky the trans gets faster. I used MOTUL GEAR 300 which shold be top oil.
