problem-brakes sticking or drive meshing????
problem-brakes sticking or drive meshing????
Has anyone experienced this??, when I reverse the beautiful RS4 machine (500miles) into the garage and let it sit for 12hrs or so, when I go to drive forwards out the garage something seems to have locked up, the move forward feels loaded like the brake is on or something isn't meshing properly, then a crack like something is releasing/meshing and we're off. It doesn't do it when its hot or been run. I spoke to our dealer today and he said he's driven a number of A4's that do it...said it could be the disk pads moving back when reversed into the garage and then releasing as I go forward (makes no difference if I leave the hand brake off). This is my first Audi, is this common??? Any comments appreciated.

I occasionally get that with my B5 RS4 if it's been standing for a few days - I always assumed it was just the handbrake sticking slightly - probably different to what your getting but you never know.

It sounds like brake pads are binding to the discs, so the dealer may be right. The rear drum handbrake (Porsche style in centre of rear disc) on the RS2 does that if the car is slightly damp and then left with the handbrake on for a while.

Mine does as well (B7 RS4) Usually worse if say I wash the car fri night and don't use again till Mon Always thought it was sticking brake pads following washing. Don't usually leave the hand brake on though in the garage.
RE: problem-brakes sticking or drive meshing????
if it is like the b5 generation the rear pads automatically adjust to contact the disc and is unfortunately not like the porsche style seperate handbrake drum
RE: problem-brakes sticking or drive meshing????
Hi Guys Thanks for the replies...it does it even if I leave the hand brake off, but if I use the car quickly from its last run it doesn't do it...so guess the dealer maybe right. I seem to wash it more than use it...I'm in love!!!,I will keep an eye on it if it does it more after washing ie water over the wheels.

I think it has something to do with the oxidization of the rotors polished face that creates a sticking sensation with the pads. My TT does this after the rotors get wet. Do your brakes feel a tad fury the first time you push them and then they are fine? look at the rotors next time and see if they are brown with rust.
