Haha...Wasn't aimed at you Gordon...just a general comment.

I know you are absolutely fastidious with regards to your car (maybe slightly too much !)....but at the end of the day, it's still depreciates... it will always be worth more to you than someone else, because of the memories it helped to create and the time you've spent on it. Just don't expect someone else to pay for those memories if/when you come to sell it.

It really is just a piece of metal. Do I miss mine ?..Honestly no....I have great memories of it and truly do love the B5 RS4 but it no longer ticked the boxes I required and I had to move on.

How did you find the transition from RS4 to the M3, did the M3 tick more boxes. The reason i ask is because that is the only other car that i truly have a passion for and i keep finding myself looking on BMW sites or checking to see if there is one at the local BMW garage for me to look at. Trouble is wouldnt want to get rid of the RS and it would be plain stupid to buy an M3 aswell and have them both sitting in the garage doing nothing, this is really niggling me.

I can only comment on the CSL, not the M3 - they are very different cars.

I wouldn't say the CSL tickes more boxes...just different ones.

It's a totally different car and really shouldn't be compared....different purposes completely really. I wanted something more track-focused and more driver-rewarding...something that the RS4 just can't offer I'm afraid, even with a list of mods as long as your arm.

For a long motorway mile muncher, or a great fast A-B 'without thinking too much about it' car...The RS4 rules.

The transition was tough at first...as you have to learn to be careful with the throttle and feel a lot more..the RS4 (and other quattro cars) let you get away with a lot and are always safe. You have to thrash the BMW to get the best out of it...which is difficult to get used to after the RS4...but the CSL LOVES being thrashed and turns you into a bit of a hooligan...it's SO sharp after the RS4 that it's quite shocking really. You really have to drive one properly to experience it.

If i got one it would have to be the CSL, i see what your saying the RS is a very 'safe' and reliable drive and doesnt sort of allow you to let yourself go but the fun element is amazing, maybe i should think of getting an elise or exige to be silly in, i grew up with hot hatches and my chipped Renault 5 turbo brought out a different driver to what the RS does i suppose i am still a boy racer at heart but in a more expensive car

As I said, I'm contemplating an Exige - with then new S being supercharged (although the lotus info at the show said turbocharged???!) you get low down grunt as well and they do seem like a hell of a lot of fun. Gotta arrange a testdrive to see what they're really like, and preferably a testdrive in the wet so I can get a feel for what they're like in not so perfect conditions.

Just looked at the RS4 to......... thread God what was i thinking.

Incidentally i have a V Good Lotus dealership a stones throw from me they even have a Shell garage on site next to the showroom so you can fill up with Optimax whilst looking at the cars through the window, if your about this way book yourself a test drive and pop in for coffee.

In January I bought an immaculate 2 owner, Avus Silver with Silver silk Nappa (fave colour combo), has all the usual extras like sunroof, with 83k miles on the dial and previous owner had just spent £3k with Audi only 3 months prior (disks, pads, belts and tyres), drives like its only got 30k on the clock.

IMHO milleages on this type of car can mean little as usually most have been owned by enthusiasts who REALLY look after and pamper their cars, personally I think general condition, a complete audi service history and colour/spec is most important.

Oh, nearly forgot, it cost me £22,950 and had been serviced by Audi 2 months previously...

Happy hunting.

That seems absurdly cheap - did they do it at a loss? I only ask because I would have thought the parts form audi would ahve been more than that!

Partly because I was intrigued by this thread and partly because I had considered changing cars recently I popped into Listers Worcester today and had a chat with a friend of mine. My RS4 is Feb 2001 on an X with 42000 miles. No real Audi extras but MTM stage II and Porsche brakes. It is fully Audi warrantied until Feb 2007 and has a full history. It is in near mint condition and needs nothing doing. Nogarro blue by the way. Had I wanted to trade I'd have been given £21k against a new car and they'd have put it up for £24995, leaving a small margin to 'deal.' Listers see a lot of RS's so I respect their views in such matters, they have 5 RS6's at the moment!!!

I have the original receipt for my car which shows that in 5 years and 6 months it has still retained 45% of its original value. I can't think of many cars that can make that claim. I don't have any concerns about their prices :D

Agreed bud...I don't think there's many cars out there that have held their value as well as the B5 RS4. I think it's down to the limited number built combined with the fact it is still a stunning looking car with SO much road presence...

I remember seeing Gav's Noggy blue beasty coming up behind me on a motorway on one of the trips....damn they look aggressive in the rear view mirror ! :D

Shame, but I don't see the B7 doing anywhere near as well in a few years time...
