SPEED CAMERAS!!!!!

Post by bakerdcb » Thu Jul 20, 2006 6:08 pm

Had a letter through the post today informing me that on Saturday I was snapped doing 35mph in a 30mph limit. Have spoken to my brother who just happens to be a traffic cop and his advice was, "just accept it." Not really very happy since apparently that's the lowest speed I can be done at- 10% +2mph!!! Wasn't even in the RS but my diesel A3!!

Any advice gratefully received. Had I been doing 140 in the RS I'd have obviously just taken it on the chin but 1mph seems a bit harsh and to be honest I'm not happy. Cheers in advance

Bad luck Dean, If your really wanting to fight it out there are specialist lawyers who will deal with the case for you......but at a cost. eg.

Personally I would consider just ignoring all correspondence. Sounds like a gorilla tactic but all they want is your money without having to work for it. For every awkward git there are hundreds more only too willing to give up 60 quid without a fight - just the kind of customers they want.

Not so! You could, actually, be done for 31 in 30. The 10% + 2 is a guideline used, in particular, by the camera partnerships.

However, the law is absolute - exceed the set speed limit by the smallest margin and you are, technically, speeding and you could be prosecuted.

exceed the set speed limit by the smallest margin and you are, technically, speeding and you could be prosecuted. but were relying on a speedometer thats mass produced whilst driving with the wrong tyre pressures or even worn down tyres so how can we be prosecuted when unless we have our speedo,s calibrated we could be speeding all the time..plus getting flashed buy a camera that could be out of wack and had a poor maintenence record..when ever any1 gets a ticket via a speed camera it should be contested..within reason of course..

I'm guessing the 10% + 2 guideline is there because of the fact it could otherwise be contested in court. although all speedos are generally designed to be optimistic to avoid such problems, you can never be sure. There is some big case going on at the moment to prove that Gatsos are completely unreliable and not accurate enough to legal convict with. If the guy wins all the sh1t will hit the fan!

bearing in mind that car speedos generally overread by 10%, to get flashed at 35 in a 30 limit you would have to have 39mph showing on the speedo. that's about 25% quicker than the posted speed limit.

Its intersting all this... most cars seem to read about 2-3 mph over at 30 according to Road Angel.... At 90 on my Porsche, the GPS is reading 83...... how can it get that far out????

thats my point ...i think..surely that can only go to help a person who has been flahed speeding..it mite cost money to get it proved but it must be better than points..cos points make prizes only 4 the insurance companys that hike up ya premium...

because there's an error factor built in of around 10% which is designed to make people think they're going faster than they are in the hope they'll slow down, why do you think the feds never bother you at 80 on the motorway???? it's because you're actually doing 72mph and at that speed they you ain't worth nicking
