s2 2.8
Re: s2 2.8
Cricket Green Pearl (a major pain to colour match!!)
Mods:
Forge DV005
Miltek catback (first of a kind by Milltek and my car was on their site in the news section)
K&N panel filter
OZ Vela 18" x 8" with Eagle F1 GSD3 235/40ZR18
AP 6 pots with RS4 front disks with braided lines
RS2 Anti roll bars front and rear
Security
Validated at 281 bhp and 282 lbft on stock boost pressure (note that torque is not higher than stock but that the breathing mods have contributed to more torque (and hence bhp) at the higher revs
Full set of Powerflex wishbone bushes (going to fit this weekend if I am not working)
Planned in next few months will be what I consider stage 1 modifications:
Hybrid Turbo with 360 deg bearings or ball race bearings and low mass impeller
RS2 exhaust manifold
Custom downpipe and twin high-flow cats
Separate wastegate exhaust pipe ( dedicated 1.5 or 1.75 inch tubing to rear of car to make it sound wicked when changing gear!)
Re-mapped ECU with increased boost pressure
Uprated injectors
Uprated fuel pump
Water injection and intercooler supplemented cooling
Custom manufactured roll bar bushes
All of this should be good for around 360-370 bhp if all goes well
(might need twin DVs but will have to wait and see!)
Stage 2 is where things should really start getting interesting, and very expensive!!
Lee
PS only advantages of Avant is the RS2 anti roll bars, cheaper to buy and room for a wardrobe at 150+ mph.
Advantage of Coupe is that it has slightly better aerodynamics, is marginally lighter, has less rear suspension compromises and higher resale residuals.

Re: s2 2.8
I can vouch for the superb car Lee has, really quite surprising
Can't beat a bit of boost!
Re: s2 2.8
Thanks for holding back last night Bushy. I could never have kept up with you if you'd switched the cruise control off.
Still, I guess mine isn't that bad for an unchipped, 131,000 mile, 8 year old car.

Re: s2 2.8
PS How much were you holding back when we left the High Wycombe roundabout from the lights? Mine had nothing else left.
It was mightily impressive to still be able to hear your gear change when you were over 50 yards in front of me. I was at full chat and my exhaust isn't quiet either but I could still hear your Milltek roaring.

You can usually hear Steve over 2 miles away

Re: s2 2.8
Im doubtful that the water injection will make a great deal of difference on the S2 because of the way the turbo system works on our cars, the rest of the mods sound worthwhile, are you going to keep the standard type S2 turbo or uprate to RS2 and beyond?
The only problem ive found with the powerflex bushes is they creek a bit, i got onto powerflex about them when first fitted because it was un bearable and they sent me new sleeves for them so spent another day re fitting the bushes a second time round. When u do them make sure u have grooves in the metal sleeve of the bush and use plenty of copper slip, you will prob find they still creek a bit though, i also fitted the UR Quattro top mounts all round in the process which has helped the handling also.
Goto get tyres sorted next cos got another bloody nail in the tyre this week. ho hum, least the tyre is guaranteeded.
How much did it work out for the brake conversion? im gettin more and more fed up with the lack of brake power on mine.

Re: s2 2.8
I am planning to stage my modifications logically and can now start modifying becasue the chasis is finally sorted. Funds availability will dictate when I get the mods done .
Firstly, I will implement upgrades to purely deliver more air and fuel to the engine and put other systems in place to help get the most out of the fuel in my tank. Preparing for future power increases is paramount and if it means a slight compromise on stage 1 to make stage 2 a bit cheaper and more effective then I will do so. I would never buy an RS2 turbo now knowing full well that within a year I would want to replace it with a bigger/better unit. The limitation on my stage 1 modifications is the mechanical strength of the engine and the transmission system. Stage 2 will be some serious mechanical mods to handle more power and then utilise the systems already in place such as the water injection togehter with other enhancements to generate more power.
I would like to get someone like Turbo Dynamics to custom build me a hybrid turbo with low inertia impeller/turbine and proper ball bearings for longevity. Planning for future mods will dictate the specification for the turbo.
I want to use water/methanol injection to suppress detonation at very high boost levels since the standard compression is over 9:1 which is quite high for a turbocharged engine. The combustion temperature is going to also be a lot cooler with water injection and if used properly can help liberate more energy from the combustion process.
Interesting point on the bushes. I couldn't fit them on the weekend because I didn't have any deep offset ring spanners (full swan-neck). I was planning to use the grease provided (the steel pins are grooved). At which interface did you use the copper grease ie sleeve-to-bush or bush-to-wishbone? and, did you use it instead of the grease provided entirely? I the past I have used superflex bushes and they didn't make any noise when fitted with the red grease in the kit.
My brake kit was quite cost effective. Let's just say that it was noticeably cheaper than the retail porsche kit and my EBC greenstuff pads are only £60 delivered per set which is the same as for the standard S2. PM me if you want a quote for a system or part-system for your car. I can tailor it to suit any caliper and maximise diamter based on any wheel size you specify if required.
What make and size tyre do you have installed? How are they when not punctured? I have come to the conclusion that the Eagle F1 235/40r18 are no better than my previous 205/55r16!! The latter size on the original rims were Bridgestone S-02. The bigger tyre has also taken about 5 mph out of the top speed and noticably affected acceleration whilst offering hardly any improvement in grip. The only reason for the upgrade was to fit my monster brakes. My spacesaver will now not fit over the front so if I get a puncture at the front I have to swap if for a rear tyre and have the space-saver at the back. Might buy a 5th 18" wheel but will wait until I next replace tyres.
My next tyre after the Goodyear Eagle F1s will be one of the following. They are listed in order of preference and subject to availability, speed ratings, industry improvements and which side I got out of bed on the day of ordering. Price and longevity do not factor in the decision since tyres are the only contact between the car and the road and are therefor extremely important to me:
Yokohama AVS ES100
Yokohama Parada SPEC-2
Bridgestone S-02 (best tyre I ever used and still available on 235/40r18 as a BMW fitment)
Dunlop SP Sport FM901 (just to try something different that some people have raved about!)
Michelin Pilot Sport 2 (are they available yet? are they any good?)
Toyo Proxes T1-S (highly rated by many other board members)
Sorry for the waffle and digression!
