RS4 to ...?
Just a general question to see what other similarly priced cars are rated.
Which cars would you consider swapping your rs4 and why, now obvioulslty i mean real world cars at a similar value.
My other choices would perhaps be an M5 or CSL, purely for the noise...
Anyone tried an Elise or similar?

RE: RS4 to ...?
Thats not easy to answer after what the rs offers, out of your choices the m5 is the only real world car,the csl maybe, but if you do alot of miles its maybe not the best allrounder

RS4 to....
Don't be mad !!!!! Keep it!!! You are so unfaithfull guys.......!
RE: RS4 to....
Like a few others, the next progresion from the B5 was 996 turbo. others have gone GT3 or RS route. I have been lucky enough to have been able to keep my B5 and would have missed it had it been sold.
RE: RS4 to....
It depends on what you want from the car....
What kind of driving do you do ?
Are you interested in track days ? - if so, how many do you plan to do ?
Need a four-seater ?
Answer these questions first....that'll make your decision for you pretty much..

RE: RS4 to....
The three questions are a good pointer.
Its pretty much a do anything car that not only looks great but performs pretty damn good too. Do will do well to match its torque! I guess the new RS4 is my best alternative although I missed the torque when I test drove. Then it would be I guess an RS6. But it is just too big. Practical for a family as the A4 is really too small.
I mountain bike at least twice a week with mine. Roof bike rack permanently mounted and get all my gear in the back.
4x4 is great. No nonsence wheel spin at roundabouts and junctions, pulling out to pass something on wet/snow covered slow hills etc.
Relatively subtle - It doesn't jump out to the untrained eye so the general boy racer / ned doesn't tend to target it. Unlike scoobies, Vtecs etc. Quite a few of my mates have had their spoilers, scoops badges etc nicked.
With the better brakes now I'd consider the odd track day for a play.
I was away for the weekend mountain biking took the girlfriends folks and their walking kit with us. Carefull packing and we were comfortably away. They got back early and watched a bit of tele in the car.
So yes it pretty much ticks all the boxes for me and I don't know of a suitable alternative?

RE: RS4 to....
Great answer...totally agree !
Only reason I changed mine is because I wanted to start doing more trackdays and improve my driving.
As a fast/safe road car, with amazing all-round ability the RS4 is truly awesome.

i agree the RS4 is an all-rounder, I just think after 2 months of driving mine its...a bit......erm...
soul-less.
very boring and uninspiring at low speeds, only comes into it after 3-4k imo

Re: RE: RS4 to....
Yes there are times I would agree with that too, as you say at the slow speeds. Its almost too refined that you need to be doing 100mph+ to get a sense of fun speed out of the beast.Olly_K wrote:i agree the RS4 is an all-rounder, I just think after 2 months of driving mine its...a bit......erm...

Well I wouldn't recommend the 100mph part as I'm pretty ceratin I am about to loose my clean licence on this Wed for 100mph on dual carrageway. Anything between 7weeks and 3months. Lucky I can bike to work.
I wonder if something like an Elise or a Porker will give me more fun at a lot less speed - I just find most cars don't come close to the torque?
RE: Re: RE: RS4 to....
I had use of AmD's Mk5 Golf GTI and MK4 R32 (both tuned to the eyeballs) and I have to say these were very fun cars. OK, not exactly going to set new top speeds in a straight line, but very punch, torquey, throughout the rev-range.
I'm actually eyeing up some porches at the mo, which is a shame because the RS4 is a lovely car, im just not "feeling" it at the mo !
