Simon,

i "followed" a B7 RS4 in my stock B5 S4 saloon about two months ago, and i can safely say that it made me follow it at a "respectable" distance. But i didn't mind because it was just nice to listen to the noise it emitted :D

Hope you don't mind me joining in here, but on a memorable day last year I had great fun with a Bright Orange Gallardo on the A50 between the M1 & M6 in the early hours one morning on the way to work, when I commuted over that way. Certainly surprised him; He appeared to be trying quite hard for about 20 miles or so, but lets just say that he didn't overtake

Thats the best thing about these stealth saloons with supercar credentials, although the lambo is lighter (not by as much as you would think) he's got loads less torque and only about 40 extra horses... for the same £'s he could just about buy a used RS6, a new RS4 and a new Q7 all together!!!!!!!!!!!! and it costs about £6,000 for a cam belt  . Its a no brainer to me, but it takes all sorts :bash:
Present:...
Lotus Evora GT410 Sport, Caterham 420R, CCM Spitfire, VW T2 Bay Window 1976

I have a 2 month old B7 RS4 and had a race against a Porsche Carrera last night down a dual carriage way. There was absolutely nothing between the 2 cars at all which surprised me a bit. I know the Porsche is much lighter than the Audi, but supposedly 414bhp v 320bhp?!!

I'm continually surprised by porsche, I've never had a go against one, (I'm still looking) but I'm always hearing stories like the one above, they must be very conservative with their figures.
RS4 B5. Where it all started.
RS6+ Never to be replaced.
Replaced by: 997 Turbo. Didn't like.
Replaced by RS6. I like(d).
Land Rover Defender. Not as nippy.
Back with C6 RS6
And again C7 RS6

I followed a yellow Dodge Viper a couple of weeks ago. we were on a busy single lane rd leapfrogging traffic - he seamed supprised i was keeping up, by the noise from his engine he was trying hard - once past the trafffic i sat up his exhaust till hitting the rev limiter in 4th - thought that was enough!
Also left a skyliner scraching his head as i dissapeared into the distance.

Had a few, kept gaining on a 355 spider - so was fractionally quicker than him. Done a C4S a few weeks a go, crept past him till high speed then seemed to pull away quite quickly. (by the way they are normally down on Manufactures power figures too, like RS4's) my old one was meant to have 345bhp but run 327 before re-map!!) Friend of mine has an Exige, slightly quicker to 80 than him then I'm away like a steamtrain!!! Can't compete in the tight corners though.

Sorry Steve, you're completely wrong mate. A standard gallardo will absolutely annihilate a standard RS4. It has a LOT more torque than an RS4 as well as a much better power to weight ratio. The person you saw with a gallardo could not have been trying very hard, or we was a really bad driver with no concept of when to change gears (hence his inability to overtake you).

The figures do the talking nicely:

Gallardo
V10 500HP
350 HP/tonne (curb weight 1430kg)
376 lb ft of torque

RS4 B7
V8 420 HP
254 HP/tonne (curb weight 1650kg)
317 lb ft of torque

Don't get me wrong, I love the RS4...I'm about to get one, but please do not state wildly exagerrated and frankly incorrect claims without checking first. The Gallardo is in a different league of performance car and that is reflected in its price. In order to keep up with one for roughly RS4 money you would need to go down the route of a Noble M12 GTO-3 or GTO-3R, or a similar track day special.

My apologies, I thought Steve was talking about a B7 RS4.

The argument still holds however.

RS6 saloon
456 HP
247 HP per tonne (1840 kg curb weight)
413 lb ft torque

In fact, a B7 RS4 has a very similar power to weight ratio to an RS6. The RS6, being a twin turbo has loads more torque than the RS4 and a standard gallardo. A gallardo would still easily embarrass it however with an advantage of over 100 HP/tonne.

Have had a Gallardo, and an MTM Stage 3 RS4 B5. Not a lot in it. Gallardo is way more drama and noise, though the RS4 is comfier; just got rid of an M6, which felt quicker than both! though I suppose perception from the driving seat taints things slightly....M6 was simply staggering from 110...scarily so, though fuel consumption on all three was just as scary!! Sat in traffic, you can see both fuel gauges on the Gallardo and the M6 moving.....throughly depressing!!! Maybe i should buy a smart!!

Strange thing is I still hanker after the MTM.... :(

Enough said. What kind of power do you think your MTM is pushing out?

had the front fogs removed and the sportec grilles put in there. Apprently gave an extra 7bhp whoooo hoo. in total around 465bhp. That was with the full Miltek system, MOVits to help it stop, short shiftm lowered suspension.....and the plate R55 BYE which of course made it even quicker LOL.
