Stereo

Post by LHD » Mon Jun 19, 2006 6:46 pm

First post and as is usual on these occasions some noobish questions. In my defence I've done a search and can't find the answers I need.

I'm about to become the owner of a RS2 and my thought are naturally turning to practicalities. My question concerns the stereo, how easy is the unit to extract? Does it use ISO plugs?
Perhaps more complicated- has anyone managed to install an IPOD in their RS2?

Is it possible to retro fit cruise control? Will VAG com that I used on my VW Golf work on this car?

Finally do the cars have remote central locking and if not is it possible to retrofit.

Any help gratefully received. :)

RS2 stereo unit uses OEM audi rear plugs as all models nowdays.Original stereo also has connection for radio display on the board computer(depends if previous owners have kept this cable or not.)however you can use whatever different radio you want. You can either use the newer audi model radios used on A4 etc, requiring some eletcrical modifications for identification.Personally i use a becker mexico pro unit which offers AUX connection capabilites therefore an Ipod can connect. From what i understand i think the original radio does not have AUX so you probably will need to replace it with an aftermarket deck to accomodate this.

Thanks for that, I've taken a look at the mexico pro and it has a real OEM look to it. Just need to find one at the right price now.

Can anyone help with my other questions? Particularly intetrested in retro fit of cruise control.

Re cruise control (I won't ask why) check with vagparts. Think it was a LHD option.

Cruise? Just because I sometimes drive down to my mother's in Spain and it's nice to take the strain of the right foot for the odd 5 mins or so on a 20hr drive.
I sort of answered my own question anyway- the car doesn't feature a drive by wire throttle so retro fit of cruise control is a PITA.
