Summer care: Tar

Post by K2 » Tue Jun 13, 2006 1:05 pm

I'm really enjoying the high grip on nice warm dry roads at present :D....but am finding that tar spots are becoming a problem on my paintwork as a result :?
Does any one have any opinions as to the best removal method?

Ugh! You don't need anything abrasive to remove tar - a simple solvent will do the trick.

So is clay bar an abrasive?
I have never used it before.

try lots of warm foamy Megs GC shampoo, preferebly left on for 10 mins via a foam gun, then if Autoglym tar remover wont shift it, a clay bar should and will be fine on your paint. Oh and I heard margarine does the trick too!

I use turps or white spirit. If you use thinners, make sure its not the two pack variety and your car hasn't been painted! Wash off straight away too!

You can get tar and glue remover from partco its about £10 for a gallon and works realy well. I use it on my s6 and lots of it on my rally car both for tar and glue from stickers.
