Stock S4 will be easily beaten by an M3... 265HP & 4wd vs 340+ & RWD of course (in the dry) the M3 would win Hands down!

Not that bad a comparison, traffic light GP S4 even std can hold an M3 upto 60, get a bit of moisture on the ground and you can def. mug an M3 especially one of those flappy paddle SMG thingies. E36 m3 is a better comparison. Standard scooby is hard to find but

60 Comes so quick that I wouldnt really consider that a test. Up to 100 is more what I would consider a proper run. I hardly ever get that chance for a good Traffic Light GP - up & running the M3 has it all the way.

Odd - different responces all round. I think a lot of it has to do with the driver of each car!

You must change gear quick or I can't help with think you would be revving to the limiter when the clutch is down between changes!!!

I do. If you are after a fast car that is good value. S4 9 to 12 k, spend another 1k and you have an M3 e46 beater. Spend 1k on the 25k ish BM and it will still lose to the S4

thanks paulm my thoughts exactly..@ graham 4 the gear change method its quite simple..u keep ya foot on the gas flat 2 the floor and then go throw the gears like lighten..its all about getting it rite..and ive had lots of practice..u dnt press the clutch slow u floor it dwn and up in a flash..and no i dnt hit the limiter once.

So what you guys are saying (Paulm and S4woody) is that if you have a standard S4 and do a stage 2+ custom remap, gutted precats, and miltek, youd be able to outpace an M3 0-100?

Or am I getting this wrong?

0-100mph is going to be very close. I reckon my car is just a kick in the RS off 350bhp but 4 wheel drive tranny losses will be more than the BM.

In the real world the S4 will be faster as it will have close to 400lbs of torque. The BM is around 270lbs torque @ around 4600 or 4800 I cant remember. So if you do a rolling start the S4 will walk it. Most driving consists of rolling starts and or passing where the torque is most usefull.

I would like to give one a try all the same

I promised to settle this with a trip to Bruntingthorpe, but circumstances have conspired against it happening so far - the M3 driver lives in Scotland and only brings the car down to Midlands once in a blue moon. The last two times the moon was blue the Scooby driver joining us couldn't make it (football  ), then the M3 had starting problems (and immobolised itself  ).

Hoping to get there next month, and will take plenty of video as evidence using different mid-range and standing start runs.
Milltek dual cat-back, gutted downpipes, ECS Tuning stage3 brakes, MRC custom map, H&R ARBs.
