You must all be mad........ Firstly haggle with your main stealer, if that does not work go to APS (Brackley) for excellent service and good value. It is worth the drive, if you are not from the area, to save a fortune!! I would not trust dealers to do anything other than discs and pads.
I was quoted 158GBP for an oil and filter change!!
Less than half at APS................ They will be doing all the work on my car!

Most Audi dealers make my blood boil. The sarcastic lady at Epsom Audi in particular who originally quoted me over 10 hours for the cambelt at at a cost of £1500!!!! What a bunch of charlatans!

Anyway, I finally got my cambelt done today. Total hours charged 3.7 hours @ £105 + VAT. Parts were £364.31 + VAT (this included additional £40 belt for air con and powersteering). Total bill .... £884.55. Now, I still think the labour rate was a rip-off, however, had no choice due to maintaining warranty, and this was by far the cheapest quote I got after I called six other Audi garages in London area.

My advice is: SHOP AROUND ! Just like you do for insurance.

Yes, was with the belt change, 40K service was £450 all in.

I agree that its a shed load of cash for a service dace; at the time I wasn't really aware of quality alternatives such as APS, but I reckon that for that one I would have still stuck with the stealer in ballance despite the extra. At least the next service 50K at my dealer later in the year is only £150, granted they hardly do anything, but thats a small price to pay for a nice stamp in the book for such an expensive set of wheels.

Am still shopping around for brakes and its amazing the price difference that I'm getting... Will let you know how I get on as for total as fitted price - parts, labour and VAT some are twice as expensive as others!!

If I had a choice of two cars.....one with a full dealer stamp and the other an independant, I would plump for the latter every time!
After my cam belt service, carried out at the stealers, I uncovered cracked intercooler pipe, broken cam belt cover (including missing bolt) and broken throttle body pipe...........
Unfortunately they just do not care

I've just been quoted £880 today for the standard belt change, including labour, parts and vat. That's Reading Audi. I think I'll go for that - it's pretty convenient for me, too!

Pete - do they change the spark plug, oil filter, pollen filter, gearbox fluid and all the other stuff and not just the belt?

Does anyone have a list of the items that need to be done on this 40k service? - be a good reference to tick off infront of the servicing guys to make sure that all has been done to Audi schedules (and to make sure that they show me the bits they've changed ) to see if I'm getting my monies worth.

40k service? The cam belt is due at 3 years or 60k miles, whichever comes sooner.

I've already had the three year service carried out on my car, but had no success in persuading the dealer that the cam belt was due at that time, so it didn't get done. I paid £460 for the MOT and service (including recharging the air con - which is a service item, not a warranty item!). Eventually, the servicing dealer admitted that the cam belt was due (when I collected the car, and having already typed up the invoice stating that cam belt was due at 40k!), and quoted me £1097.17.

The quote of £880 is simply for the belt, tensioner, labour and VAT. I discussed the option of changing other components (water pump, thermostat etc) on a precautionary basis, but was advised that it really wasn't necessary at 26k miles.
