Company to make my S4 Avus wheels look new?

Post by MCB » Wed May 31, 2006 10:37 pm

Looking for the best wheel re-finisher in the UK to sort my sad wheels out and I want them to look like new, literally like new. I want that 3D looking metallic silver finish, tried the Wurth paint Etc God what a B… ache so I want to give the job to a truly professional company. Please note a company like wicked wheels is not in the ball park.

Also interested in powder coating although not sure if they could replicate the finish, as silver powder coating is something of an art.

All comments gratefully received.

Heard good things about these people:

If not too far away, go and have a nosey and check the quality of their work. I'd go for powder coating over paint - far more durable.

Nice one!

They seem to be the type of Company I am looking for and powder coating does sound interesting, will find out today if they can match the Avus silver with this process.

Thanks

Hi,

I had the AMGs on my Mercedes refurbished by BVJ Engineering. They come recommended and are people I will use again.

Prstine in MK have a reputation for being the best, but the price reflects this:

I have also bought wheels that were previously refurbished by Lepsons, again a good finish.

I have heard mixed reviews about Wicked Wheels - it depends on the franchise for your area I think. Personally any service that is not a full tyre off strip and respray is not worth the effort.

Update:

Spoken to Neil this morning and as I suspected they cannot create an identical match to the OEM Avus silver finish with powder coating. The fact that they cannot replicate an OEM finish has not necessarily put me off though, he said the closest colour they do is called Hi-Power Silver and he said I should call in to their showroom and take a look (150mile round trip for me so I will only go with my wheels in the boot). Hi Power Silver is down the page on the right hand side: www.lap-tab.co.uk/alloywheels.php

He also mentioned that Audi wheels give them problems as some of the castings are not very good, bit surprised about this but then I am not in his business.

I mentioned that there could be more that one set to do and he said he would do a deal, this was if they were all going to be the same colour and he could do them in a batch.

Now I should tell you that it may be difficult for me to join in with a group buy as my wheel refinishing is going to be part of an insurance claim (New wheels damaged in transit) and I have no idea at the moment how long this process is going to take (For ever if past experience is anything to go by!).

I also want to check out a couple of other companies before I decide who to give my wheels to, so if someone wants to organise a group buy with Lap-Tab the guys name is Neill Murphy and he sounded like a good guy to me.
