Low Fuel Warning
Low Fuel Warning
Having a major issue with my fuel guage.
1st of all it did not read full, Audi replaced 3 senders... then it only read 3/4 full.....Audi then fitted them correctly (apparantly).. still was not happy but could not put mu finger on why - seems to go down to 3/4 then stay there for ages athen suddenly go down quite quick.
To add insult to injury the FUEL Warning came on at 30 miles left the other night, then at 20 miles left it started to miss, then it went to 15 miles left and stalled (still showing 15 miles left and some fule in the tank)
Questions:
1 - How many miles left does the display show when your warning comes on
2 - How many miles have you run it down to without running out
3 - Should I be concerned about any damage this may have caused to cats, injectors etc
I can then inform these idiot Audi technicians --- yes I was a little peed off that I had to dump the car, find a garage at gone midnight, buy a fuel can and out Total dodgy fuel in it......
Thx in advance and sorry for the waffle

RE: Low Fuel Warning
Bit of guidance here: http://rs246.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB ... ic&t=53626
How many mile depends on a forecast of your fuel relative to the mpg that you are doing at the time of the warning (if that makes sense). From memory it usually warns you at around 1/4 to 1/8 tank left; So if your cruising along the motorway when you get the warning your probably looking at about 70 miles, if your flying around in traffic as such, your looking at about 25 miles. As you will see in the above thread I have run down to 0 a couple of times (but not particularly out of choice)... Good luck!

Re: RE: Low Fuel Warning
As Steve says, it seems to depend on the MPG at the time. Although I think the minimum warning is 25miles.SteveH wrote: How many mile depends on a forecast of your fuel relative to the mpg
Have been down to 0miles remaining a couple of times. Always try to get it down to 0 before going away on holiday
I don't think it will do any harm to cats or injectors.
I have noticed that even if I park with 0 miles remaining, if I drive gently to a petrol station the next morning the miles-to-go will increase - which is nice.
RE: Re: RE: Low Fuel Warning
Just to add that the 911 turbo has a problem with sticky sensors in the fuel tanks too! It even says in the manual that the gauge(s) may not increase if a small amount of fuel is added to a near empty tank. Since when was £20 a small amount!
Caused a right kerfuffle at a filling station once!

RE: Re: RE: Low Fuel Warning
As a rough quide my alarm goes of very predictably as it hits the red part, what is rather annoying is that the car often goes in the garage without a low fuel warning and the alarm goes off when I start up again the next time. I went down to 5 miles on the DIS last week stranded in the Cotswolds before pulling into a JET station, they must have thought I was a tight git when I put 5 pounds in, enought to get me to my local Shell.

RE: Re: RE: Low Fuel Warning
Mine normally comes on at 45 miles remaining. As soon as I see this I fill up with Optimax (3 miles away) by then she would have consumed approx 65-70 litres. From that I can see that I would have 25-35 miles left if you take the combined mpg approx 17. I always go to "brown alert" when the fuel thing shouts at me!!!! It's on now but I can't be ar5ed at the moment.
RS6 (MRC'd with econodrive) is not just for Xmas

It's more difficult to push than the Aygo!
Thx for all the reply's guys.
Looks like there is no way that it should have given up still showing 15 miles left.
It's booked in with Audi tommorow; I'll let you know how I get on...
Really dont need the hassle of running out of fuel; hoping for 3rd time lucky...

Steve - no decent photos to hand at the moment; all were lost on a dodgy SD card. Will take some and forward just as soon as I get it back from Audi.SteveH wrote:Lee, I see that you also have an Ebony Black Saloon, but am intrigued as to what the optic kit is??? The optic kit is an Audi fancy description for a de-chrome; so where you would normally see chrome you get black - boot trim, window trims, mirror housings, front grill etc, etc. That along with a debadging makes it nice and discreet --- especially stops the scallys noticing the car by it's mirrors and or pinching them !!! (and yes they charge for it...)
Also have the electric steering wheel, drilled discs, tv, elec folding dipping mirrors, elec blind, phatnoise, nokia 616 car kit, roadangel, and the alcantara / leather seat combo that took me ages to find... OH and a nice Shell Fuel Card...

Is that the heated wheel, or is it a theft-prevention measure?fenny123 wrote:Also have the electric steering wheel
Yes, I wonder how many other people felt, like me, that it was worth £1450 to have half the leather removed and replaced by alcantara.... and the alcantara / leather seat combo that took me ages to find...
My information was that the seats are all bought in, trimmed in full leather. The alcantara option involves removing the leather and replacing the centre sections with the alcantara.
