Potential S4 Newbie...

Post by Grant » Mon May 29, 2006 1:31 am

Hi Guys,

Gonna give you a wee bit of background info.. I'm 22, from Scotland and have been car-daft since I was able to pickup my first matchbox toy!!

I've been through various performance cars in my few years behind the wheel some of them include, an RS Turbo, a couple of Civic VTi 3drs, 205 GTi, a couple of Subaru Imprezas and lastly a 400bhp Celica ST205 WRC GT4.. all of which have been modified to varying levels.

We have had various Audi models in our family throughout the years. Back in November we traded a MY03 A4 1.8T 190 Sport in for a 330d M-Sport Cabrio..... and if the truth be known, we're missing the Audi a bit.

I am a Subaru Enthusiast, I love the driving experience and noise of an Impreza.. but, to be honest I'm a bit p/o'd at the depreciation/image/attention that cars like that attract now and because of this, I'm looking to get something different. I'd promised myself an S4 for some time and think that now might be the right time to look into buying one.

Are there any local meets held for this forum?? Also, can you point me in the direction of any Audi S-Line Specialists in my area.. as I believe they'd do a better job of looking after a car than a Dealer. I'm based in Tayside, East Scotland.

I tend to keep my cars for around 6 months, however, I'd like to find a car that will keep my attention for a little bit longer this time.. at least 18 months would be nice!! :D

If you know of any nice S4's around for c10k then I'd appreciate a wee PM or e-mail to grantfarnan@yahoo.com with the details. :)

Cheers,
Grant

Grant check out Star Performance in Kirkaldy for specialist services/sales.

And just a wee tip don't confuse S models with S-Line spec unless you wanna trade performance for trim level

Happy hunting

Morning Grant. :D
Are you following me?
I have been browsing for an S4 for a while now, it appears that we are going to have to travel south to get one.
Seems Mafs are a bit fragile (sound familiar :P ) but engines are more robust than scoobs overall.
Jim at Star seems to be highly recommened for upgrades / servicing.
Maybe we can start a mini Scottish S4 club? what you after saloon or avant?
I am hunting for a black 99 /2000 plate pref with recaros & sat nav - Oh & 330 bhp would be nice too :D

Hi Grant !

Welcome to the site.

Just joined myself too. Got an RS4 Avant on order but I'm a big fan of the Impreza STi's (and Evo 9's  ) myself.
I like them as weekend car as they are brutal cars that command respect. And that's not only the "get it wrong and you're dead"-feel, but even in day-to-day driving: Lose concentration for a split second in town and you stall it

I'm not too worried about the image of a car (although I wouldn't go as far as driving an M3 ), but the scoobs indeed attract quite a lot of attention.
My wife uses the car during the week to go to work (only 2 miles down the road) and isn't too pleased with that.
I personally also wonder why you got to absolutely have the teenage blue interior in them.

Hence, to get the wife off my back, I gave in and ordered something less extreme.

Good luck with the 'S4 hunt' !

:bigwave:

Thanks for the welcome guys... :)

Daz, only difference is the price of the MAF's on these cars... but you dont buy them if you're going to have to skrimp and save to run the thing so I'm prepared for an increase in cost of parts!!

I'd prefer an Avant, I'm a big fan of the sleeper look and extra flexibility if its needed.. I do have a dog, but I dont think he'll be getting anywhere near the S4.. Haha, I've bought a banger specially for his transportation.

My list of requirements are something like this:

- 99-00
- Avant preferred, but will consider a Saloon
- Nogaro Blue/Black preferred, but other colours considered
- Under 100k miles
- Full History (Exclusively Audi or Audi/Specialist)
- HPi Clear
- Stage 1 Upgrades would be nice.. :smile_smoking:

Am I asking too much for 9.5-10.5k.... :D

Cheers,
Grant

Hope you are not looking for too much as that pretty much my requirements too, although I'm not so fond of nogaro blue - bit bright for me. I have not come to a decision on saloon/avant either yet. I will know this right car when I see it :D
So, are we gonna be fighting over the same cars then  :D

A gentleman would conceed that because you were here first, you get first refusal on any cars that come up for sale.... Thats what I assume a gent would do anyway!? :P:lol:

Nogaro Blue just sets it just that wee bit apart from the rest of the A4 range IMO.. Dont know if you've seen it or not, but there is a Black '99 Facelift Avant on eBay just now with c38k miles on it, its in Angus too.... might be worth a wee look as its on your doorstep??

Cheers,
Grant
