Sure, but they didn't look like boyracer types and it was Sunday afternoon in a 30mph built up area. Gut instinct was it was them trying to locate my home for a return visit, they weren't looking for a burn. You've a point, but I have experienced them and they are usually smiling at you etc, this was a 1.6 Mk4/5 escort, not chavved etc. They looked very serious.maxxximus wrote:It always pays to be vigilant and you did the right thing if they were after your prized possession.
However the fact that they did a u turn to follow you does not necessarily mean they mean they had evil intent. They might have just been cruising around looking for 'bait'. The RS6 is not something you see every day and if they were really into their motors they might simply have wanted a better look/play.

can someone resize a little smaller for me????
As you can see, the effect it quite good. All one needs is some advertising on the side like "drugs r us"!!!!!!!

The Avus 'hides' the mirrors well and the balck roof bars help too much more stealth than mine

RE: pimp tints and no badges
Both look very nice indeed, and as you say Damon, the Avus certainly hides the mirrors.
Have thought of graduated tints, bit of a stupid question, but are you still able to check your blind-spot with tints? (especially at night?) and let us not forget ... most importantly can you still see the RS246 window sticker through that blackness!?

One gets accustom to reversing in the dark after a while. Beside, we all have parking sensors anyway. I wanted an RS246 sticker however, thought that such a thing might draw attention to the car. Having said that, the calipers do give the game away if anyone looks. Just another cross to bare I suppose.

I'll have to have a practice parking my car with my eyes closed
Its superb how you get people in Nova's Saxo's and Corsa's trying to get as much attention as they can, and people in Audi S's and RS's making their cars as stealth as possible. I bet someones doing a PHd on the psychology of that one somewhere!
Don't worry, the sticker is very discreet... Can you spot the sticker?: http://rs246.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB ... 872#114872

RE: pimp tints and no badges
I debadged my car from new and I can honestly say that it seems to attract very little attention - so much so that I was surprised last Saturday, when driving up the A43 and got held up briefly by a convoy of Corsas/Saxos, that all the passengers in the trailing Corsa turned round to look at me.
With regard to a 'follow': the local Police area office is just a mile down the road from me and is open 24 hours - I would head for that and turn into the car park.

I think bored youth looking for something to play with is the most likely scenario, but of course you can't be too careful and you didn exactly what I would have done.
My RS6 is debadged and the only thing that seems to get people looking at the car is when they hear it...unless they really are well clued up on their cars like our plasterer with the Evo 7.
Not sure about the tinted windows though as a deterrent. They may reduce the chances of a smashed window and stolen briefcase, but as far as theft goes they make the car a great deal more conspicuous IMO.
Gary.

Damon,
You may recall i posted last year about an attempted car-jacking i was subject to on the M1, but fortunately quick thinking & sensible actions averted any real problems & once the inital shock had passed, everything was fine & dandy.
I find in these kind of situations it's far better to only think about what DID happen & not what COULD have happened as you end up worrying yourself stupid. This kind of thing can happen to anyone in any car, recall KMP on the TT-Forum & him getting run off the road in his TVR. The recent spate of car-jackings in the UK show the actual car is of very little relevance & some very ordinary cars are being targeted.
Are you absolutely sure they were not just admiring your car?? When i was younger, i occasionaly followed other cars to get a closer look & then thought that cars owner may think i'm stalking them. Only a thought.
Concentrate on the ass whooping you'll be getting tomorrow & for the rest of the week when my V10 Monster takes on your V8 Bi-Turbo monster.
See you tomorrow.

Thanks Paul, comforting.
No they were not looking for a play etc, appreciate how it might seem, but being there it wasn't about that.
I am sure the memory will pass and Nurburgring will distract me.

Ed, pentagon quoted me £650 just for tints, and for supaglass the quote was £1100 !!!
However, I managed to get a local supplier to fit my car with Armourgard window protection and tints (same thing as Pentagon) for £650. RS4s and RS6s are notorious for thefts apparently, being a favoured car for armed robbery. My missus drives the car alot and because of the high risk of car-jackings, I had it fitted as soon as I could. Also, have DVD screens in the back so the tints help hide those and provides me peace of mind.
Damon ... really sorry to hear about that, and I really feel for your missus. The only thing I can suggest is the window protection, drive with doors locked, and have a phone inside ready with a speed dial for the police. Also, suggest you beef up your home security, add a few visible security cameras. Hopefully, the police will be able to catch up with these guys, and give them a warning ... so at least they know they have been spotted.
