Im not too keen on `upgrading` or tuning, just a personal preference but i think that the RS3 is going to cause a real stir when it comes out, i remember when the S3 was out back in 1999 i think, nothing was quite like it, even now its still special

Despite the better judgement from my conscience I put my name down for one of these babies.. no cash handed over just a preliminary interest and will need to firm up order as and when 'official' figures etc come out. Then i'll be giving it some serious thought and of course comparing prices with Colin I'm 2nd on the list apparently.

Also got myself in for the A3 3.2 launch day at Whitehouse Aylesford which should be in the next couple of months

Audi have been forced into this situation IMO.

With RS3 they have a weapon in their line up to compete head on with BMW's M3, and forthcoming CSL and M4.

If they do this properly it will make a very interesting alternative to the CSL.

Let battle commence - bring it on!!!!

Not wishing to pour cold water on a hot topic but:

It's also going to cost around £40k(before you load it)
M3CSL will be very close to it's *next* incarnation by then so as usual Audi are playing catchup rather than "innovating"
It's going to be a "lifestyle estate" (avant) so it hardly compares or competes with any M3 derivitive does it?

As usual, instead of trying to genuinely compete in any area, Audi are yet again "creating" a best-in-class car, because it will be the only genuine contender in it's "class".
The RS4 (fantastic car though I think it is) was only ever going to be in avant form because Audi knew if they made it in saloon form it would be directly compared with the M3 and despite it's unarguable straight-line grunt would lose out miserably in the chassis dynamics, brakes and general "drivers car" stuff.
If they make the RS3 as a saloon (or hatchback) it's in danger of being compared with proper 4wd performance salons like EVO's and STi's, which think of them what you may, are better hands down.

Just my 2p
