On motorway run, on a relaxed drive, cruising at 70 mph, I get 21 mpq.
Same thing but driven hard, some third gear, more 4th and 5th and 6th sprints, I get between 15 and 17 mpg.

Town driving in heavy traffic, an ill get 9 mpg.

When I drive at night locally on normal east london roads, when the roads are pretty much empty and I do about 30 mph to 40 mph, Ill get about 18mpg. If I drive it hard then ill get between 13 and 15 mpg at that time.

I get about 13 mpg driving locally in normal daytime traffic.

Ive fault coded car with VAG come and O2 sensors didnt come up at all. Car is clear of any fault codes.

Still confused. I have qauater of a tank pf petrol left since I filled up completely. Have done 130 miles.

Helppppppppppppppp

Something wrong there. I get 9MPG on track days, 20-22 around town and 25-27 on a run....and I have K04s, big injectors and bosch motorsport fuel pump. You need to get that sort ....

I had to do a 150 mle round trip this afternoon,,,very dull M25 & M4, didn't go much above 85mph.....I reset the computer befor I started and the fuel consumption read was 32.3 mpg on my return....not too bad!

Car is totally standard with MRC fitted maf and VAG com check......went through 50k miles on the way home......nearly worn out???? :?

Saf...for the 32.3 mpg......I was on the m25 on a sunday, which meant 85mph was my top speed......mostly 75mph.......then usual roadworks meant the few miles at 40mph.........the mpg may have been better, but on the way home a black m3 cab cut a few cars up....i found myself next to him at the lights a few miles later...road was wet...i didn't like the noise from his Boom box blaring out...so just cleared off into the distance...suprised him I think :o

I thought my average of 21/22 was a bit low, but 14mpg is obviously way out. I have to say, though, that the best I've ever got, with very sensible driving on long journeys, is about 26mpg, so maybe mine needs checking out too.

@saf - Let us know how you get on at MRC.

@flossymeister - interesting comment about Sainsburys 97 RON, there's me thinking I was getting cheap high octane fuel!

Will let you know when Im back from MRC. Im not even expecting to get 30 mpg. I know these cars are thirsty, but 14 is just not on.

I can live with 19 - 21 mpg local.

and clubsport - well done. lol. Thats very very good 32.3 mpg including your little race. lol.

I wonder if theres any other tests that can be done for fuel.

Anyone using Tesco 99 ron, getting lesser miles?

Ive tried optimax and tesco, and I get roughly same on both petrol. I just read that tesco is better, and came up tops in tests.

I think we need to start a separate thread if we're going to get into discussing the merits of available fuels... :bigblink:

I get around 19-21 MPG during the week for my (short) in town work commute. Car is stock.

Over the last 3000 miles or so my computer is telling me I've averaged 23.1 mpg. That's pretty much half long runs and half short town runs etc. When I was commuting to Abingdon on a daily basis along the A420 (60 odd miles a day and basically 50 mph all the way) I was averaging 28 mpg. This is with a custom MRC map. When I bought the car it had a slightly dodgy MAF and it returned 31 mpg for the trip back down from Manchester to Swindon cruising at 80 mph.

My average is dropping, but that's because the car is rarely used other than the short (2 mile) commute to work and whenever it does get the opportunity to stretch its legs I don't tend to hang about ;)

Since some were mentioning different fuels i thought i would post this article that i found not really to do with MPG but more to do with BHP

the tests between fuels were done on a cosworth YB engine with a t4 turbo, readings taken at 6500rpm and 2.0 bar of boost plus an ignition advance of 13(little degree sign should be after this!damn keyboard) advance before increasing until detontation/pinking was heard.

normal unleaded at 95 ron peak power was at 516bhp at 10.75 advance as 13 could not be achieved without det

tesco 99 RON peak power of 523bhp with ignition only being advancded by 0.75 to 13.75

Bp ultimate 97 RON peak power of 537bhp with ingnition advanceded to 15

now for the interesting one Shell optimax 98 RON ran peak power at 547bhp ignition avdvancded to 16. not bad eh?

so in a nut shell, looks like optimax is definetly the best of the bunch nearly 20bhp higher than tesco 99 and less chance of det. bit lenghty write up but obviously this is quite an important subject, any thoughts guys?
