Cat 1 or not...

Post by Hopsta » Wed Apr 16, 2003 9:26 pm

Anyone know if the standard fit alarm system is Cat 1 compliant(MY2001) ? If so do you have any proof ? I've got to produce some info to my insurance company so need it pretty sharpish.

Dunc, did you have to do the same with Greenlight ?

Greenlight told me I'll need a Tracker. Anyone else?

I did a lot of research on this and it turns out that the S3 has a cat 2 alarm/imobiliser...

Also, no deadlocks.
M3 CSL - Silver Grey, a few options.

One way to be sure is to look up your system/car on the thatcham website. They have a .pdf listing the category of all alarms that they have tested. Try http://www.thatcham.org/

They do periodically relist their systems to lower bands as technology in the industry improves (or rather when theives crack them!!)

Get evidence straight from them for insurance purposes.

If you get an aftermarket one make sure you get the certificate that the insurance companies recognises.I nearly got cought out with this one because my fitter had lost his insurance-approved certification. They assured me (verbally) they were certified until 1 minute after the bill was paid when they could give me a certificate but could not fill in their membership number! Luckily the insurance company accepted it. I redid parts of the system becuase I realised quite quickly why they lost their recogntion !!! I always wondered why the staff wore spurs and stetsons!

As discussed Graham, Greenlight checked and told me it wasn't a CAT 1 alarm, but I already had a Tracker fitted so that was okay with them...

I'll be calling them tomorrow to clarify my options.. may even have to cancel the policy if it mean shelling out more cash. But then i could lose money by cancelling the policy
