problem with cable and vag software

Post by oliew » Thu Apr 27, 2006 7:24 pm

I bought a cable from ebay to check my s4 which has just recently been de-precatted, rs4 dps and full rs4 milltek exhaust, for maf reading and error logging, just incase theres any problems while i run it around :)
The cable connects ok with Vag Com but will only connect to the xenon headlights?!?!! im really confused,
the cable is a usb type but looks to use a serial emulator driver.
the guy assures me it will work with my car and version 409 of vag software i tried 311 also.
here is the cable

What happens after youve tested each of the comm ports - are you getting full communication

Might be a driver problem - try installing this usb driver http://images.auctionworks.com/hi/69/68 ... Driver.rar

hi mate,
comm works ok, its on com4, only thing i havent tried yet is disabling the fifo on the com port, will try that tommorow, i think im getting full communication yeah, with the golf it seemed great.
1 thing i have got is the ABS problem. i read on a forum that the abs module could stop vag connecting to other modules??? maybe i should disconnect the abs module wherever this is and try that after i try the other thing.
thanks for the link to the driver will try it!

maxximus,
tried that drive, no go im afraid! allthou it does have a few more nicer options in the properties like recieve/send size buffer and response time.
i m beginning to think its working but because my ABS is shot it wont connect to the car!! wierd how xenons did but maybe they are on a different bit.
mrc managed to get their vag connected with my car but wouldnt connect to the abs must be totally broke :)
maybe i should fix my abs! then try the cable, if no joy still ill get a rosstech cable!
cheers for the help

It's not unknown for timing problems to afflict certain modules with some computers. The benefit of the genuine Ross-Tech cables is that they have intelligence built in and control the signal timing, rather than relying on the computer to do it all.
