Short Shifter fitted! very short!

Post by tricky » Sun Mar 26, 2006 7:53 pm

Earlier I asked about removing the centre console in order to fit this to a preface lift car. Well I did remove the console, its actually very easy and wow did it make the whole job easier. I tried to start with to do it in place but it was a real bugger and very awkward. If anyone ever need to remove the centre console give me a shout, you'll have it out in 10 minutes :D

So its in, I went for the greatest reduction, I think that was about 35%, but I think its a little short so I will probably go for the middle setting. I almost think the movement is too short and it has lost any hints of smoothness, 'notchy' as some of the other threads have suggested it might become, is an understatement, I actually think its just to rough. Anyway we will see what it is like once I have reduced it to the next setting.

Other than that the kit is pretty good, everything fits well, it is much tighter that the stock shifter whose bushings had significant slop. Though fitting the replacement clips on the end of the new bushings is tight to say the least.

This must have taken me about 4-5hours including the faffing around getting the right tools for the job and working out how to get the console out. Next time should have it cracked in under the hour :D

I think once the leverage difference is reduced I would say it must be the bext £40 spent :D

Ok so I've driven it back and forth to work now, and TBH, I think I might leave it in the shortest setting. I've got a long drive on Wednesday so I'll see what it's like on that. I think it more a issue of what you are used to, and I obviously wasn't used to such little movement, but I reckon I might actually get used to it and stick with it. It is certainly very quick...will up date...

How easy is it to change the throw once it's fitted? Is it just pop a bolt out and move it up or down??

I wonder what setting others are using...

I don't live anywhere close sadly, however I can help you with the job. The link the seller includes with the stick is more than adequate though if you really get stuck you can PM me. The only tricky thing is if you have the none face list dash and have to remove everything first, to be honest it isn't really tricky but it does require a bit of fiddling/bodging (gentle bodging that is :D ) first.

On the basis that you don't want to get stuck mid way PM me if you need and I will send you my mob no. Let me know when you're gonna attempt it and I'll make sure I've got my phone with me.
