Stolen RS4
Thats what I'm thinking. So this nasty little man has stolen or attempted to steal THREE RS4's for definate. And I'm sure that's not all. Please could those that have PM'd with with their interest in trying to catch him, send me an email to my work address? We really should give it a pop. I know it's a long shot but he's done it three times at least, so no doubt it will happen again. And hey if nothing comes of it we'll go for a pint anyway.
Thanks.
Thanks.

holy crap !!
Really sorry to hear this.
I will put a big mark in the register next to its details when I get home.
I wonder just how many other car sellers have had their cars removed in this manner - not just RS4s, but all performance cars...
Fingers crossed you either get the car back, or the insurance give you a decent settlement.
Bob, a sting is a nice idea, but I would suggest you do it with the cooperation of the police and not independant of them. Just be careful mate.
Cheers,
John.

Too many toys, not enough time
Perhaps thats why we're a little low on volunteers. I might be a little gung ho, but it's infuriating to know that this spotty oik is going around helping himself to RS4's. Collectively we know what he looks like and what he sounds like and I just want to stop him doing it again. - anyone any suggestions with regard to talking to the Police? Just ring the local cop shop and ask for their cooporation?JohnW wrote:Bob, a sting is a nice idea, but I would suggest you do it with the cooperation of the police and not independant of them. There was a feature in a bike mag a few years ago where 4 guys who had all had bikes stolen, decided to leave a bike in a carpark in a sting operation...they hid in a transit van and waited for the toerags to come get it....then promptly jumped out and mauled the thieves with baseball bats.
Not that we can advocate this type of thing, but ask me in private and I'd say 'top job lads'.
Just be careful posting info though...they could well read this forum.

I agree I'd like to see him/them get what they are due, and not a couple of weeks community service, or get off on a technicality. Trouble is though Bob, these things have a habit of back-firing and I'd hate for you guys to either get arrested, or worse - the tossers give you lot the pasting...
In order to do a sting you will have to give someones contact details, and that gives them a point of contact for any return visit...
A couple of recomendations for those selling cars from their houses (told to me by a copper mate).
When the interested party turns up:
have the car keys in your pocket, and not where they would normally be,
same goes for the documents - history, log book, etc.
ask them for some security if you go on a test drive. This could be their car keys, wallet, etc. Basically something they would ideally need to return for and wouldn't want to lose.
NEVER let them have the keys (I know - too late !).
Cheers,
John.

I am 99% certain I have encountered this guy today. Got a call last night from someone called "John" who said he was from Thurrock, asked if he could come and see the car. This was at 9PM. Obviously I said no, so he asked to see the car today, which I agreed to (at my office). Received another call this morning from someone called "Johnny" who sounded completely different to the guy I had spoken too the previous evening, but insisted he was the same person. (same number?!) This time says he is coming from Gatwick.
So he turns up at my office, which is on a farm in the middle of nowhere, ON FOOT, and claims to have taken a taxi from Gatwick. (Assume he had an accomplice nearby) Matches the description given by RBlandford, so by now I'm really suspicious.
He has a brief look around the car and some of the documents, fortunately none with my home address on, whilst repeatedly taking calls on his mobile. He asks for a test drive, so I take my business partner with us and drop him off at the nearest town.
I have spoken to Bobjebb and RBlandford today and I am sure this is the same guy. I have also reported the incident to the police.
I'm just glad I was on my guard thanks to RS246, and lucky there were people around at work.
