bizarre, audis are the best daily driver fast cars.... (not that i'm biased or anything)

wonder if its spent a lot of time idleing to run the engine once a week etc

oddly i'm getting a fiesta with 8000 miles on the clock thats 7 years old, one very elderly relative owner, handy as a third car...

Why would it be in for a cambelt change?

I thought the S4 cambelt change was at 80k miles.....is it also after 5 years if 80k has not been covered?

cheers.

Obviously loves his car and wants it 100%

I have had mine done @ 35k! Is it clearly stated that it is due after 5 years?

That's the first time I've seen this "5 year" requirement. Is that an Audi guideline?

Yes on this 5 year cambelt change thing, mine has full audi history...i am suprised they overlooked the opportunity to see if I wanted the belt changed when it was last serviced.....that's not normally their style.
2000 B5 S4 facelift, sadly missed...enjoying the 2005 A2 TDi Special Edition though!

Looking through the Audi service schedule that came with my 2000 Uk car

Under Additional work (at extra charge) it quotes "toothed belt and tensioner for camshaft drive replaced" at 120k km or 80k miles....

No mention of time...

Where as next to oiton the page it has...brake fluid to be replaced every 24 months

emission test every 36 months

airbag system replaced every 14 years...

I also have every service bulletin applicable to the car sent from Audi for all sorts of things and none of them mentions anything about a the 5 year time bomb of the cambelt.

I agree it could certainly happen........but then if i fitted a brand new one myself.....I can't see me getting any comeback if it snapped a month later.

Is there anyone from Audi, who can post an official service amendment to what was actually printed in the schedule?

cheers

I wouldn't buy that sort of car even if it was offered to me for £1k honestly. I'd just run away from it.

And I'm not joking, a car that has done 7.2k in 5 or 6 years (I have no clue what X reg is, I'd assume 2000 but not sure) simply hasn't been run in properly and most of it will start falling to bits in very little time.

Just my 0.02. I'd much rather buy a 5 years old car with 150k on the clock than one with 15k.

If it's up for 1k, I'll have it. Unless it's been stuck in first gear and used as a Taxi I reckon it would be sweet. I know what S2tuner is saying as I always buy high mileage. Up and down the motorway with the oil nice and hot, off boost is a lot less wearing than low miles, stop start accelearation.
But 7200 miles, not even run in yet. Bet the cross hatch on the bores is as clear as the day it was born. He/She may have only done 20 trips if approx 350 miles per trip. This would also be about 30mpg so not thrashed either........ :D :D

Cambelts are rubber which has a shelf life and detirioates never go by mileage go by age, i have known low mileage cars shred a cambelt and wreck the engine because the owner thought that they only needed changed after a certain mileage.

Jim 98 S plate 61k with belts and tensioners changed. :biggrin2:

I called an Audi dealership who confirmed 80k or 5 years - whichever is sooner!
