Bloody private plates - NEVER going to get my car :'(

Post by ZeroK66 » Thu Mar 16, 2006 11:19 am

Well, I have not got my S4 yet as the dealer is waiting for DVLA to issue the car a plate. The vehicle had a cherished plate on it and so I cannot take it with that plate till the new plate is issued.

When I last spoke to DVLA(Yesterday) they had an ETA of Monday to complete it and post it to the dealer.

I have insured the car against the chassis/VIN number so I can tax it AS SOON as the dealer gets the plates - but if this is next week - that is another weekend without the car... GAWD this is frustrating!

How about this... :boohoo:

Must admit I'd be well pi**ed at this myself. It's just plain stupid "process" and red tape. Why didn't the dealer put a new plate on the car when they acquired it so it could be sold off the forecourt quickly? I suppose it's a typical dealership thing... avoid spending any money until the very last moment!

It was first registered onto the private plate... so it has to be assigned a new plate.

Anyway... deffo off for this weekend now, just have to accept it and grumble and b!tch. This weekend was my only free weekend in the near future too.... AND while I own this car now and have a HUGE hole in my bank account for it - I am PAYING to drive a MICRA as a rented car - that I am going to have to renew.

Where is that violin again? :'(

Will a moderator please remove that word from the alst comment...."M*c*a" Language Timothy!

Sorry that you'll not be able to play with your new baby this weekend.

I'm sure you'll be able to find a paper bag/hood to wear until the M*c*a goes back.

Years ago I bought a TVR from a Dealer. It then had to go back for some work, they gave me an old clapped out Escort with a form to sign saying that if it broke because of neglict during the time I had it I would be responsible. I then check over the car to find it had hardly any oil or water in the engine and 2 blown bulbs.

The dealer went bust a few months later...

I bet the Escort had more of a chance to keep going in the rain even if it didn't have any oil?

I've had my car now about a fortnight (not trying to rub salt into the wounds!! :D) - to get my plate put onto retention took nearly 2 hours of waiting at the DVLA (+ £105 lighter  ) and FINALLY, today, the Audi's V5 turned up. So, tomorrow, I've got to make a 50 mile round trip to get the paperwork signed so I can put my plate on........

Don't get me wrong, I love my plate (a very generous 30th birthday present from the wife), but we may have thought twice if we had have looked at the hassle involved.......

Archaic sytem wrapped up in stupid red tape!!! :D

Archaic indeed!! I will call them later today and see if the paperwork has been processed. If it has there is a chance the dealership gets paperwork tomorrow and they can tax the car ready for me to collect. I could make my way down on Saturday and have it - but I have pretty much given up on the weekend *sigh*
