M3 to RS4

Post by Jezzer » Sat Mar 04, 2006 11:56 am

Seems to be a few on here moving over from the M3s and into RS4s. It seems a few are unsure of the what the 2007 M3 will look like due to the appalling looks of the 3 series saloon and spy shots of the 3 series coupe? Are these the reasons for moving over or is there more?

Naaa they have come to their senses and realised with the poor british roads and rain etc that 4WD wins!

And the BMW interiors arent much to look at....

Jezzer,

I was just saying the same to my wife tonight.

For starters I hate the company, for various reasons which I will not go into.

I love the M3, but it is dated, obviously a great car on the track, but how often do we track our cars? As already stated the interior is pretty ordinary. Its best attributes are the engine and the handling.

But no regrets changing over, be interesting to see how Audi treats it customers.

From reading posts on here and personal experience, it seems to be a fairly mixed bag in that respect.

My RS4 (arriving in mid April I hope) will be my first Audi after 3 BMWs
I'm just a bit tired of Beemers and fancy something a bit different, although breaking up is hard to do (I have had a deposit on a new M3 since Nov 2004 ).
Dealer locally seems fine :)

Is that an echo I hear

I've been buying BMWs for the last ten years having had an M3 GT, M3 Evo Convertible, M Coupe, M3 Evo, M5, X5 4.6is/4.8is, M3 E46 Convertible, and my last car an M3 CSL. Having lost loads of dosh on the CSL Ive also had enough of them. For me Audi is the new marque, it's image is so cool now compare to BMW. Ive never really been happy with the attitude of BMW dealerships. The Audi team I have been dealing with are more professional in their approach. They actually want to sell me the car, have passion in the products they sell and last but not least they phone me back when they say they will always giving me the information I need. With all the ugly designs coming out of Munich and the poor attitudes of BMW dealerships in the UK I'm glad to have moved over to Audi and only wished I'd done so ten years earlier.

I really like this thread, can you all keep converting to Audi and moving away for BMW.

typical choices for a "reasonably famous professional footballer" no doubt eh Jezzer!!
Bet you've been keeping the insurance companies well happy over the years.

Well lets put a bit of balance and perspective on this one. Interesting comments....

Having owned both E46 M3 and B5 RS4, I have enjoyed both for their strengths and weaknesses, lusted after both in equal measure, although it took me a while to get my head around the B5 being an estate, but that's all water under the bridge now. Similarly all this nonsense about the M3, rear wheel drive and being wary of the UK bad weather as a reason for avoiding the car is somewhat over emphasized

However, the current BMW design language has me running a mile and while the M5 is a simply spectacular vehicle, its not a car I for one can lust after since its simply been smacked with an ugly stick. In the meantime I await my B7 RS4 worrying that Audi are trying to play BMW's game which they are certainly not as skilled at providing a drivers car with appropriate prowess; please prove me wrong Audi :kissmyrings: Worryingly my E90 M3 slot on the waiting list might be a waste of time because the M3 may be afflicted with the M5 horrors and bland interior. :(

On the dealer front, don't be fooled into believing one meaning Audi or BMW is better or worse than the other. It's simply a case of finding or making the right connections with a good dealership......brand independent, or so my experience has taught me.

So what does all this mean....humm I'm sitting here thinking am I ever going to find that wonderful balance of practicality, fun and lust in one vehicle again  ......that's what made the B5 and E46 such splendid cars.

At this rate I'll end up with a B5 and 997 to calm my furrowed brow or simply be philosophical and enjoy each car for its merits

Doc, all good points, I have enjoyed the M3 and look forward to the change, so far all the reports are reassuring.
