Facelift differences
Re: Facelift differences
Ah Ok. There was talk about other differences not just a map, but I don't think I've seen anything official that has stated what the actual engine differences are. Clearly the normal engine / cooling / exhaust is easily capable of reliably producing 605ps and 750NM.
Re: Facelift differences
I would have thought the extra bhp would have come from a map tweak ??
Re: Facelift differences
That's the most popular thought (and most likely); a slight increase in boost for the extra bhp and an overboost facility to give an extra 50NM shen needed. Others have talked about different compression ratios and different engine parts and I think better cooling. But I don't think Audi have ever said exactly what the differences are.
Re: Facelift differences
Logic says that, if there were mechanical differences, Audi would make something out of that in the press releases and - certainly - the technical briefings that accompanied the PE launch. Which manufacturer wouldn't jump on an "increased bore", "longer stroke" or "bigger turbo" line? Instead, the technical briefing merely stated an overboost.MikeFish wrote: ↑Wed Feb 22, 2017 8:46 pmThat's the most popular thought (and most likely); a slight increase in boost for the extra bhp and an overboost facility to give an extra 50NM shen needed. The proof, though, is in the specifications - both cars emit the same CO2 and have the same fuel economy. If there was even a marginal change in the physical spec of the engine, it would show there.

Re: Facelift differences
Is the confusion here because someone is mixing up FaceLift (FL) with the Performance Model (only available on FL cars) ?
PreFL were 560bhp as was the PostFL normal models.
PostFL you could also order the Performance Edition which had a 600bhp tweak plus interior and exterior trim changes.
I believe the engine spec (part code) is the same with a mild map change at the high end.
This allows the fairly useless govmnt MPG and Co2 figures to remain the same as these don't stretch the revs etc.
