Very true and a real downer when he says the B7 RS4 is a more entertaining car.

Sorry Sims - it was all going swimmingly until I read this bit, "The RS6 Avant and sedan, the TT RS, and former-gen RS4 lineup, have all been like pushing really fast pigs around when it came to serious dynamically demanding situations"

I feel the same, looks wise it's just not as nice as the RS4. I might feel better if I see the car without those horrible wheels.

It would appear to be more colour specific than the RS4 in terms of whether it is a looker or not. But ultimately I am still disappointed ina few design feature, particularly the Audi R8 V10 spyder-esque fake exhaust tips in the rear bumper.

Who let a Lexus IS-F exhaust designer near these cars?

Just something about the view of the front 3rd that doesn't sit right with me, it's not elegant enough. From the front, the RS4 looks mean and elegant, the RS5 looks mean but slightly ugly.

Skim reading? Me?!! You got me there actually! I have just read the rest of it properly this time. Really looking forward to seeing one in the flesh and maybe getting a spin in one. It could well be the replacement for the RS4 that many of us have been waiting for :D Although I do feel it is going to be too expensive (for me anyway) once all the nice options are added.

http://www.autoblog.nl/archive/2010/04/ ... o-audi-rs5

And the video:

http://www.abhd.nl/video/audi-rs5/

A price of Euros 112,500 mentioned, with all extras.

That would equate to (& 1.33) to US$ 150k.

So I expect the US price will be about half that

They've got a left hand drive one, as a display model, at Watford Audi.

I'll take some pictures.

That Winding Road review is totally different to the EVO one!

Read the EVO review and you think the RS5 design team made a serious error with the car.

Read the Winding Road review and you think the RS5 design team has meade reality as good as the paper spec.

You're not going to buy a RS5 for "practicality", surely, as its a 2 door.

So inspite of what anyone says, surely the GTR is a competitor product?

So the car should have been "sharpened up" to at least try and tick the same boxes the GTR does. But by all accounts the reviews give differing impressions as to whether or not this is the case.

I doubt the torque deficit will ever make it feel as fast as a GTR, but maybe the difference is somewhat reduced in the wet and that was always the RS forte?

Still too expensive though.

I don't think that Audi tried to build something to compete with a GT-R. RS cars, even if they say to be "pure sport" cars, are more a mix of "relax driving in a nice looking and powerful car with sometimes a good rush" than hardcore sport cars.
A GT-R is an extremely useful tool to go really fast. It is not really beautiful, nor very cheap to run (have a look on the price of tyres...), nor very practical (have a look on the boot), nor very well finished inside but on a demanding road, it can embarrass almost anything produced by the big car markers.

Now whether it is a good idea to produce the RS5 based on their usual recipe is debatable. The answer will probably be provided by the amount of sales they will eventually get.

So it seems definitely possible to put it sideways...
