S4 Alarm Going Off

Afternoon All,

I have an issue with my alarm, which goes off randomly, usually at night. I'm hoping someone has had a similar problem.

Car: 2010MY B8 S4 Avant (without keyless entry)

Problem: Alarm goes off randomly at night (3 times last night, hasn't done it for 6 weeks or so prior to this)

Containment: Unlock car with fob, lock again.

Info: All door locks work fine, no other issues with car. (data logs below)

My question is what is the root cause of the alarm going off, at the moment I have two thoughts:

- Door handle sensors (known fault)
- Vehicle energy management system (thinks 12v Battery is low, possibly reset current battery adaptions)

I then did some further digging on VAG-COM, and interrogated the convenience module:








After some digging on the internet I found the following, a TSB for A5/S5/A4/S4 regarding a similar issue- not my car does not have keyless entry.




The symptoms are all very similar, but my information isn't sufficient to know what the codes are in Module 46 > Block 18 (i.e. what does a value of 2.0 mean?)


- TSB suggests Value 2 (no communication)

- VW 'Tech-Tips' suggests Value 2 (Front Passenger Rotary Latch Switch)




So, where to go from here...?


My other question is regarding handed faults (i.e. passenger side) is Ross-Tech mature enough to understand implications RHD/LHD regarding fault handling. I.e. I'm using a VW America Tech Tip to decipher a European fault code, I presume fault code descriptions change with RHD/LHD?

I'd get the hoover out and give the car a proper going over, every nook and crannie! Blasting up the M20 home from Le Mans I had a French spider drop down on a thread from the rear view mirror! Managed to find it when I got home. Dad had an issue a 10+ years back with a moth trapped in the car setting off the alarm

Aye, that's what I thought! I did some more digging on VAG-COM and found battery health to be lower (38Ah from a 110Ah battery).

Replaced the 12v with the 'correct' one from halfrauds last night (65Ah) and VCDS shows 63Ah capacity and no problems with alarm last night or this morning.

Will see how this goes for the next few weeks, and then replace 12V with the correct one from Audi.

Nope, I was going to, but checked vag-com again with new battery, and seemingly it's learnt the attributes itself... Clever little bugger!
