Hi I have recently received some trouble with my RS6.

Before driving a long distance I decided to pour in 500ml of oil, about 1000 miles in, my oil level sensor was showing as failing, but driving after 5 minutes it disappeared. Then oil level warning was flashing, I pulled over and rested the car for 5 minutes, checked it and the level was on the ‘o’ on the word ‘Do’.

Checking the engine oil level on a cold engine displayed 2 mm under the recommended level, could my seals be on the way out?

The check oil level comes on randomly, once cruising at 70.

The level sensors are not the most reliable of devices. Mine would warn me, I'd check and top up the oil then I'd get another warning a couple of days later even though the level was fine.

as per Jim's... and i'd add - try and replace your oil level sensor every 3-5 years (not the easiest of jobs though).

Just to add, as this is NOT a wet sump car (unlike 95% of other cars) the way you check the oil is different. For a dry sump system like the RS6 you have to have a hot engine and you check the oil within a minute of shutting the engine off.

If you check it cold it WILL show lower than the actual contents are. All this is covered in the owners manual so have a read first just to prevent any over-filling!

When i bought my RS6 thats exactly how i checked my oil level and decided to top it up. Then after reading the manual i checked the oil properly on operational temperature and it was almost on maximum... I think manual is showing 100 degrees temp. let it idle for two minutes , switch engine off and after another 2 minutes check the oil level.

I have just had my oil leak fixed by Unit20 in Neston, it was a 200mile drive and they also found a suspension leak and replaced my faulty oil level sensor. I recently spent over £2500 at a main dealer to sort my suspension knocks at the front end, replaced every bush and it still knocked. Apparently a small pipe in the rear wheel arch was leaking and the suspension had lost pressure. These guys did the lot and without removing the lump. 2 1/2 days and she drives so much better. Cannot think of anywhere I would rather go. Brilliant Call Martin on 01513366888 if they can't fix it, scrap it. Mine is the 2008 C6 V10.

Can I ask what they charged for the oil leak (assuming it's "the" leak)?
