If it's the gearbox "sump/oil pan" bolts then thats fine, watched a bunch of GB oil changes and never seen anyone replace them unless they were damaged.

Nice one, thanks. Yeah, talking about the trans pan. Will re-use.

Re: Lifeguard 8 Trans Fluid
Agreed with Ian.
I did my g/b oil change couple times, once to "freshen" the oil in the vehicle as it wasn't done before (made really nice difference regarding gear changes). I then followed up with another one 5k miles later which also smoothen the changes a notch. As I didn't use the suction machine etc. my theory was that with two oil changes 5k miles apart will keep the oil 80-90% clean and good for next 20k miles. In summary, g/b filter, seal, mechatronic sleeve and oil certainly made a difference to my vehicle!
ps. i used genuine ZF L'guard 6 kit... with original Audi supplied bolts

Nice one, thanks. I'm just waiting on parts now
Re: Lifeguard 8 Trans Fluid
Something else to think about regarding the gearbox - Check the engine under tray for the small "air scoops" near the back. these direct air onto the two smaller gearbox oil heat exchangers (house-brick sized) and those scoops can get scraped off/wrecked leaving those coolers to get pretty hot.
Hot GB oil leads to rougher and longer gear changes at full throttle and I found that once I'd replaced my undertray (all my scoops were missing) my gear changes were kept smoother and quicker through-out a spirited drive and the difference was surprisingly noticeable.
Pt No 4f0 863 821 Q (or R) - thats 4F(Zero) not a letter.

Re: Lifeguard 8 Trans Fluid
Those heat exchangers are water-air heat exchangers, one for the gearbox and one for the differentials. The associated water-air heat exchanger is at the front. I think it would be quite important to make sure the thermostat and circulation pump were working properly. I don't know what the scoops are for; there will be a reason, though. I once had a car with air scoops and ducts just to cool the engine mounts.

Re: Lifeguard 8 Trans Fluid
This is purely my experience, but I posted on here with the timing the difference of gear changes before/after fitting the new undertray because my changes were longer and harsher when the gearbox got hot - after the new undertray the changes were faster and (subjectively) smoother with those air scoops directing cooling air directly onto the coolant/oil heat exchangers and with no other changes.
Whilst I know their are coolant/oil based, rather than air/oil based like the main gearbox radiator at the front, those coolant/oil heat exchangers are also finned (slightly) for air to help with cooling which seemed to be the case for me.

Re: Lifeguard 8 Trans Fluid
My undertray is a bit worse for wear, I'll have a close look at the scoops.
The mechatronic seal has arrived at Audi. Will collect today. Is it just a case of unbolting the unit and pulling it down/replacing the seal or is there a procedure to be followed?

Oh, another thing. Do we have the same 4 mechatronic sleeves as the BMW'S? Should I be doing those as well? Is there any reason a BMW HP6 kit wouldn't work? They seem to be more readily available.

I'm just dumping information here in case anyone else finds it useful in the future.
So my local Audi dealer has a very helpful parts guy. I rang him about the sleeves and he sent me a picture from ETKA and they don't seem to exists on the RS6 box (trans code LLJ) he also said that this trans doesn't appear to have been used in anything else, which doesn't surprise me.
This is a copy of the pic he sent. I can see what look to be the 4 holes that the sleeves wouls be sealing but no sleeves shown

Re: Lifeguard 8 Trans Fluid
That doesn't look like the RS6 gearbox, it looks like a 6HP28 as used on some other more recent models, before they switched to the 8HP. The giveaways include the torque convertor attachment disc which is circular rather than triangular-ish, and the NSF drive shaft flange, which sticks out compared with the earlier gearboxes.cammmy wrote: ↑Fri May 29, 2020 2:54 pmI'm just dumping information here in case anyone else finds it useful in the future.

I'd be surprised if the RS6 GB didn't have the same seal configuration as BMW's Jags etc, but if it's a 6HP26/28 hybrid, then who knows? The best answer is probably in the fantastic GB rebuild thread by ATinOf.

Re: Lifeguard 8 Trans Fluid
I've taken a punt on the seals at as far as I can tell, they are the same between The 26 28 32 etc.
I'll have a search for that thread
