Do the brake lights turn on when you press the pedal? Both bulbs blowing can cause the ABS failure to show.

Try checking the fault codes again - it's very unusual to have a warning and no codes.

Yep, VAG-COM would hopefully come up with something. Failing that check the wear sensor wiring with a Multimeter. I have blanked mine off in the RS4 as the sensors do not come with the aftermarket pads. From time to time I get a sensor fault on the dash (similiar symbol) and nothing comes up in VAG COM to tell me.

Sounds like a voltage issue to the abs module or pressure valve in the system.
Have you checked the abs section in vag?

Brake pedal switch? Think it's a common VAG failure.

Is the brake switch a dual circuit one? One for the ABS and one for the brake lights...

I have this on mine and thought I could remove the coding but I see it's for MY99 motors and not a 2001. So I have to check the wires.

Checked them and they have been bodged up by someone already. Any ideas?

Thanks

faults displayed on the DIS don't creates logs in the fault memory e.g. if you have low brake fluid (you dont), this wont cause a fault vag com can read.
Have a look in the manual and double check what it could mean, if it's just brake fluid you could have a problem with the brake fluid level sensor or its wiring or possibly even the cluster. Apparently BBA Reman say this isn't unusual.

What I have seen on many later cars (inc my RS4 when it was left unusued for 3 weeks) is low voltage on cranking the engine causing the DIS to display a fault relating to the brake system which clears after a few secs of the engine running - if yours stays on while driving etc it wont be this to blame.

Good luck.

Nah it comes on immediatley and never goes off. When I had the pads done last week the tech said that someone had previously taped up the sensor wires so I reckon the fault likes somewhere else in the loom.

Gonna be a pig to solve as it could be either side of the fronts.
