VAGCOM fault.

Post by nickelvery » Tue Nov 13, 2007 6:23 pm

I ran VAGCOM today and found this fault. I also noticed that when slamming on the brakes there is a noise from the front left wheel. Like an ABS sound.

Address 03: ABS Brakes
Controller: 8D0 907 389 E
Component: ABS/ESP allrad D56
Coding: 04395
Shop #: WSC 00899
1 Fault Found:
18265 - Load Signal: Error Message from ECU
P1857 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

Any ideas, thanks in advance.

Could the ABS sensor be faulty - I had both front ones go on mine. However I was getting a judder upon slow stopping just before the car actually stopped - not really a sound like you say.

the load signal is generated by the air mass meter, check your maf readings

What even though it's to do with the brakes?

I'll have a look today.

surely the error message refers to the ECU on the ABS unit!!

the ESP reduces power by taking into account the load signal from the MAF so if you have a faulty MAF it can show a ESP/ABS fault since the ABS and ESP use the same sensors

Updated our WIKI to cover this code...

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/18265/P1857/006231

...and as suggsted before thise code usually comes in combination with codes in the Engine Control Unit (ECU). Your code is intermittent which means the related Engine Control Unit (ECU) code may already be cleared, but you should check for fault codes there too. A common cause for this would be a bad MAF.

Thanks for all your replies, which brings me on to how much does a MAF cost?

Thanks in advance

...but before replacing you may want to actually test it. ;)
