How to remove the silver trim on the rear bumper?

Post by Grazer_skredge » Wed Mar 09, 2011 8:19 pm

Hi all

the silver trim which sits on the top of the rear bumper is pretty grubby, and really lets the rest of my otherwise immaculate sprint blue RS4 down.

Have tried everything on it to clean it but still grubby :(

So, going to remove it and machine polish it, if that fails respray it

Does anyone know a) how to remove the silver trim and b) colour code?

thanks

let me know how you get on with cleaning it up, I'm in the same position. Mint car apart from the damm silver trim. Will get it wrapped if there's no solution

Have a word with your local dealer, I had mine changed (and front grille) for a contribution of just 25% what normally would be charged due to goodwill gesture. Car is less than 5 years old and trim was badly corroded / oxidised, it really did let it down - looks great now though.

well we managed to carefully remove the trim then tried machine polishing it with a Megiuiars oribital polisher - cleaned it up a bit, but not enough.

So, rubbed it back with some wet and dry and coated it in 3 layers of primers followed by 3 layers of Audi Silver paint from Halfords. Looking much better now. The match is almost perfect to the wing mirrors

Left it to dry overnight before we reinstall in the morn. Will post some pics up when done, then will probably do the front grill surround

Hi

Ok, fairly easy to remove, just carefully slide a flat blade underneath to push the clip out, it then slides backwards away from bumper.

Havent got any pics of it before, but it was dire, covered in muck and brown tarnish that just wouldnt polish out

So, removed, rubbed down with wet n dry, 3 coats of primer, then 4 coats of rattle can from Halfords "Audi Silver"

Very pleased with the results :jump_clap: Might do the front grille trim now

Heres a photo, not great as its taken on my iphone....

Hmm - interesting thread.

Mine looks ok but just doesn't fit ok. Keeps popping out on the left hand side after a few boot lid openings.... very annoying. I guess I need to attempt to remove, clean and check all the connectors are solid.

thanks for the tip about 'audi silver' from Hal-frauds .... need to get some of that as I have a few stone chips on the mirrors which need doing :)

Got this trim replaced on mine before I collected as part of the deal. Prep sheet says £74.17. HTH
